Stewart Intends to Remain as RBS Global Ambassador

Jackie StewartJackie Stewart has said that he has no plans of giving up his role with RBS despite the bank s problems.

RBS is currently planning to radically restructure and axe around 30,000 jobs after announcing the biggest loss in British corporate history earlier this week – the job cuts equate to around 10 percent of the current workforce. Motor racing legend Stewart is currently paid around £4 million for his role as global ambassador for the bank.

“We are, of course, reviewing all our sponsorship activity and contacts as part of an overall review of the business,” a spokesperson for RBS explained.

“I am sorry these people are losing their jobs but I signed a contract and I have done my bit,” Stewart explained.

RBS currently employ a number of sporting stars as ambassadors, including Zara Phillips and Jack Nicklaus. Tennie star Andy Murray is also employed by the bank and Murray has publicly said he is happy to renegotiate his contract because RBS helped him whilst he was a struggling tennis player and he intends to repay the favour.
