Ralf Schumacher has claimed he thinks he is one of the top three drivers currently racing in Formula One. In an interview with Bild newspaper, Schumacher ranked himself alongside reigning world champion Fernando Alonso, and Ferrrari driver Kimi Raikkonen.
“Clearly they are really fast,” Schumacher explained. “But I don’t feel like I have to hide from anyone. I rank myself among the best three drivers. If I didn’t think that then I wouldn’t bother being in Formula One any more.”
However, finishing in the top three this season may not be an option for Schumacher as so far the TF107 has failed to sparkle, and timesheets show Toyota are about a second a lap down on the leading pack.
Schumacher isn’t phased. “In a slow car, even my brother wouldn’t have been World Champion. We have to work and improve, not look the other way,” Schumacher insisted, “One day our effort will bear fruit. I hope it’s this year – I still intend to win Toyota’s first race in 2007.”
