Hamilton: Alonso showed me how not to behave

Lewis HamiltonLewis Hamilton has said that there will be no excuses if he fails to win the Formula One drivers championship this season.

Despite leading the standings for most of the 2007 season, Hamilton narrowly missed out on the title by a single point to Ferrari s Kimi Raikkonen. Following his near miss, Hamilton believes that he has the package he needs to win the championship this year.

“In terms of my package, there s no excuses,” he explained. “Last year the only excuse was that I was a rookie and that it was all new. But this year, I will continue to learn, so sure, there will always be mistakes but I don t feel there is any room for error.”

Hamilton has also explained that he is happy that both drivers at McLaren will have equal status within the team.

“I just like fairness,” he continued. “I want Heikki Kovalainen to have the exact same opportunities; and if he does and I beat him, there s the reward I beat him on the same tyres, same engine and knowing all that, you just know you are the better driver. I don t want any advantage, any head-start.”

Hamilton then commented on the driver status issues at McLaren last season.

“I think I established myself as equal last year. He [Alonso] was the leader at the beginning wasn t he? But it changed. Well, he though he was at the beginning but I don t think that should be the case we should be a team. It should be equal. He also showed me just how not to behave as an F1 driver.”
