Alonso: I don’t know if I will stay with Renault

Fernando AlonsoFernando Alonso has said he is still undecided about his F1 future. The Spanish driver is thought to have a clause in his current Renault contract which allows him to leave the French team after a year of certain performance targets are not met, and many believe that Alonso will leave Renault at the end of the season.

“I don t know if I will stay with Renault,” Alonso said. “It has not been a good year so far and it was been worse than we expected. We have not been on the podium, let alone won a race.

“We have a lot of work do to. I will take a decision on my future towards the end of the year when we will be able to see how far we have come.”

Alonso is currently in ninth place in the drivers championship with just nine points from seven races.

Despite the poor start to the season, Alonso is positive that the team will do well at the French Grand Prix.

“In France we have a lot of support and, for me, it s like racing in Barcelona,” he explained. “During the week, the team have worked hard and have made improvements with the car in testing.

“We have taken another step forward. I feel full of confidence at the moment and we are on the right track.”
