Keep in mind that what is being seen is the "foot print" of the particle, the particle itself may not be witnessed for years to come, if ever.

Plus it's mostly statistical, i.e., it's with 5 sigma certainty (99.99994) that the patterns they see are not random and therefore are caused by the Higgs Boson.

I read that article as "We found the Higgs Boson (spl) to quickly so now we have to make up a reason for our existence"
