Keep in mind that what is being seen is the "foot print" of the particle, the particle itself may not be witnessed for years to come, if ever.

I don't know if it's even that, is it not more like the footprint of the products of the particles decay that's being detected?

Plus it's mostly statistical, i.e., it's with 5 sigma certainty (99.99994) that the patterns they see are not random and therefore are caused by the Higgs Boson.

They are caused by Chuck Norris.

Heh, why do we need a particle collider, just get him to clap his hands.

Long after his death Einstein's wife was being given a tour or one of the deep space radio telescopes being developed. She asked what what it all being build for? The principal responded that it was being built to measure the size of the galaxy.

Her response; my husband could have figured that out in the back on an envelope.

Stephen Hawking lost $100 bucks on a bet, that the Higgs boson particle would not be found.

Did he say he challenges its existence or did he say he does not challenge its existence but thinks its nature makes it impossible to dtetect?

I initially read this topic as Hardon :D

the "Large" should have been a hint that it was wasn't. :whip:

The two words go very well together actuall. :hehe:

Everytime I see or hear about the 'Hadron collider' I think of Sheldon Cooper from big bang theory.
