Exactly. Then if you wanted to do something like reverse the grid in the order they finished at the last race, you'd have nonsense like people trying to lose places (or even retiring) if they're already out of the points.

You go ahead.

No, please, after you.

Oh, but I insist.

Screw it, I'll just retire with an "engine problem".

That isn't racing.

I remember the good old times when Senna was the qualifying master, and despite taking the majority of his 65 pole positions in (one of the) fastest cars, it earned him the respect he deserved for it. FFW 20+ years and it's all down to the car and boring.

I think the respect came more from the fact that he didn't need to be up front to win. Different era, different cars, different drivers.

Just realized I'd never posted in this old thread. Maybe because the original poster's opinion was a ridiculous concept.

There are a number of drivers today who regularly outqualify their team-mates, and have put STUNNING pole laps together. Is that ALL down to the car? Is it boring? I don't think so.

Anyway, F1 has ALWAYS been about which team creates the best car, right from the first season in 1950 which Alfa Romeo absolutely stormed.

Rose-tinted specs.

I think you misunderstood mnm's intent. I believe he's saying it wasn't boring then and it's not boring now.

Ahh well. It gave me another chance to have a rose-tinted specs rant :wink:
