To prevent monopoly, demote the pole sitter by one place if he had won the previous race. This rule would have applied to Vettel 8 times this season. If vettel qualifies first even then he should start second in the starting grid if he had won the previous race. If he is the best driver let him overtake second qualified driver during the race, so this rule is not unfair :drink:

Yes it is unfair and also :bs: .

A bit harsh :D

Harsh but true. I've made my thoughts clear in another thread, but as this is a different thread, I'll say it again.

Good cars / drivers should not be punished. They should be celebrated. This sport is a battle of the teams to see who can make the best car. What's the point then of deliberately slowing the car down, when a team has done well?

Dominance occurs every now and then in F1, but never lasts. Enjoy it while you can.

It never lasts because sure as eggs the sport will find some way to nobble the dominant team.

Dominance that was perpetual would kill F1 stone dead within a decade if allowed unchecked.

And every time the slowest car passes go, he gains twenty seconds....

Actually, that would be fun :hehe:

He qualified first, obviously it makes sense if he wins. I don't see how demoting him from first to second on the grid would work, seeing how he can start better than the guy in first and end up in the lead anyways.

Let's just do away with qualifying completely, the starting positions are made up of a reversed grid of the finishing positions of the last race, that'll spice up the action on track!

I could live with that.

One place penalty for monopoly is not at all harsh guys.. Theoretically max it costs 7 points (25-18) in every second race that's all. Vettel will still command front row in second place of starting grid for setting best time in qual. This will end monopoly in f1 for good. But all people here against it is not a good sign

Yeah for the simple fact that if a driver has the speed to earn pole position, he deserves to start there and not get penalized for being the fastest. It destroys the basic belief of 'best gets rewarded accordingly'.

It might not necessarily end a front row monopoly. When the pole sitter gets demoted then you could have the same driver regularly qualifying 2nd who would end up always being frst. Surely this would be just as boring as the same driver always qualifying on pole?

If you're a true F1 fan surely you can just sit back and enjoy a driver and a team performing at a very high level and raising the bar for everyone else.
