Michaels role at McLaren has had no baring on pit stop or strategic errors like the lunacy of the op claims.

I really don't know why I bother with this place anymore it's rather annoying hearing the same old s*** over and over. I really like Lewis, I hope he stays but a major part of me wishes he'd f*** off so his loonies can f*** off with him.

Sam Michaels is doing a great job improving the team as he always has

Earlier in this thread you claim this place is fun due to the 'loonies' though you seem rather upset here.

Again, it's a difference of opinion. Any of us can question anything about the sport, it's why we follow it. Why hire a guy who stepped down from a fast sinking team? He wasn't in demand, and Williams did not officially state that they wished he'd stayed either.

The reason he stepped down as I remember correctly was 'for the good and longetivity of Williams Racing' well this doesn't exactly spell "Sam Michael has been a huge asset!" to me!

My point being, we have EVERY right to question why Sam Michael is in McLaren, having proved nothing but the fact that Williams went on a FAST downhill slope the moment he took over Patrick Head's role. I remember him taking over the role right after the year Williams challenged Ferrari for the WDC (2003) and lost it. Never again did they come close. So, yes there IS some logic to questioning it, whether you like it or not.

Who exactly came close to Ferrari in 04? Williams did better than McLaren then Williams problems began with the departure of BMW. 2005 was the beginning of the end for them and Michael took over and the wrong time, to suggest he is the root cause is idiocy.

"The internal target is to consistently achieve sub-three second pit stops for all the stops in the race. Consistency always has been our goal and all of the technology that we have added has actually been to add consistency rather than speed. We have gained speed at the same time but that's not our focus, in fact that's not at all our focus.

"This year at McLaren we have been on a technology and personnel ramp-up, we have introduced a lot of different parts in a short space of time - traffic light systems, faster jacking systems and also the retained wheelnuts. But the very nature of R&D is that you sometimes get things wrong and that's what happened to us in Valencia with the front jack failure. It was a mechanical failure, it had nothing to do with the operators. If you look back at the other teams that have introduced some of these items before us, they went through similar pain and some of them are still going through it."

Michael said a new jack is ready for this weekend's British Grand Prix.

"We identified why that failed and the design has been modified for Silverstone," he added. "On Monday this week, we completed 800 pit stops on the jacking systems with no faults at all with the new design. During a race weekend, we would probably do about 50 pit stops, including all of the practices, so effectively we've done 16 grand prix weekends on Monday. We believe that we have solved it, but at least we have done good due diligence on the new design for Silverstone. If we go there and have a fault we can go back and say that we have done as much as we could, which is what we do in engineering."

Btw...his last line is so pathetic, almost like an excuse for any upcoming failures...and if this guy becomes boss of McLaren, let's change that sentence to "If anyone in this team fails, it's not my problem since I already told them what should be done".

Can anybody provide a reference to the claim that sam michael has been tipped as future mclaren boss? I'm just curious if injen's younger brother is spouting his usual bull because there was no link or quotes from a source in the OP.
