Whitmarsh, who sees some of his staff as 'disturbingly goodlooking chaps' has backed Sam as a future boss at McLaren, and as someone rightly harbouring ambitions for replacing Whitmarsh as no one else in the firm apparently wants the job.

Interesting, assuming Sam was brought in as a potential heir to the job, is it the right time for Whitmarsh to be endorsing him, after a season punctuated by screwups mainly from the area Sam was brought in to improve.

There is also the small matter of Sams abilities and previous success not exactly convincing anyone that he has a place in a top team let alone heading it. If Sam is the next super team boss that can get McLaren to the top why did Williams pay for his taxi when they parted company?

Has Whitmarsh completely lost the plot, this would be the second time he has 'snapped up' a 'disturbingly good looking' employee rejected by another top team. Does Whitmarsh know something Brawn or Sir Frank missed? Is there a correlation between an agreeable, presentable bottom kissing, fawning employee and good performance?

From Whitmarshs language it appears as though he is ready to hand over to someone better, however should finding and grooming a successor be a job for Whitmarsh?

To be fair to Whitmarsh, McLaren still comes out with good cars. I suspect this is because all the operations were already in place when Whitmarsh took over, but the car is still the most important factor. This year, their strategy hasn't been too bad (for Jenson at least) it's just their pitstops which are a disaster - handled by Mr Failure@Williams.

Btw, I think it's a bit unfair to put a label on those who think McLaren are not up to par....I could easily label you a McLaren loonie as well, but it'd be unfair. Nothing wrong with having a difference of opinion, I understand you're completely in love with the team and believe in everything they do - there's nothing wrong with that.
