Not exactly a boring race but where was all the overtaking?...

It's a Tilke circuit. There is no overtaking on Tilke circuits, only long strings of parade laps.

Total and utter bovine manure!!!

If there is supposedly no overtaking on Tilke track, explain why I have seen other series use Tilke track and manage to have overtaking? ...

Quite a convincing and fact-laden argument.

Because these other venues do not run F1 cars. No other racing car on earth has the F1 car's combination of speed and dependence on aerodynamic downforce for cornering grip. That gives them unique capabilities and requirements.

Well lets look at the engineering side of the cars as that is something we can all understand. The cars have an over reliance on aero grip. Return the emphasis to mechanical grip, reduce the speed of the cars and reduce braking efficiency would be a start.

Most Tilke circuits are pretty good and on paper offer numerous overtaking opportunities but due to the cars overtaking is far too difficult. It is meant to be difficult but not completely impossible.

This was a great race, I can't wait for next year when they have time to clean the track and get the land scape properly done. It just far to dusty for drivers to abuse that girth the track offers.

Also while tilke tracks are pretty boring, this one is actually very good, but was let down from the dust NOT from the lay out. If you disagree, then you aren't paying attention.

I think this track promised a lot but delivered a boring race. Take away all the artificial aids that have given so much overtaking this year and it would be even further down the pile. Shame. These new Tilke tracks are all too similar, all to a formula and just dont seem able to compete with the classic tracks (dont quote Monaco at me here, I dont mean Monaco)

It was also a good turn out of people that watched the race, better than Turkey, China and some other places, So its a good start. Just too bad that the cars upfront were a bit spread out and weren't really getting involved in battles.

India actually does have quite a history of being interested in motor racing, I hadnt realised this, so that does help. It was a good atmosphere.

Track was mediocre and didnt deliver a good race.

At least its not flat and has a good mix of fast and slow sections. I like this track.

I think some are blinded by the fact that it was designed by Herman Tilke and go to their defult position of condemning anything he designs regardless of how good or bad the track actually is whilst ignoring the blatantly obvious that, for the most part, it is the cars that are runing F1, not the tracks.

The Hungaroring has been on the F1 calander since 1986 and has been notroiously difficult to overtake at since day 1 yet most people seem to welcome F1s yearly visit, yet a Tilke track is doomed from the moment it's announced. Pathetic!

Well I wasnt blinded by Tilke(though I am getting tired of the monopoly) I thought it promised to be really good, but was disapointed with the reality. I think Istabul Parc is a very v good track.

Is circuit design not influenced by a technical working group who tell Tilke's company what they want and approve the proposed track layout before work starts?

I would assume like any form of design, a brief is given to the designers and they work to that brief. But the TIlke firm have enough clout to do what they want if it is against the brief.

That's what I was thinking but the Tilke tracks are generally good with the exception of Bahrain and Istanbul Park, but all designers/architects are going to produce a few duds in their time. As long as the duds are outweighed by the good ones.
