Formula 1 needs the USA, simple. The market is so important to the manufacturers, and major sponsors in the sport....

Almost incongruous, considering F1's 800-lb gorilla (Ferrari) only advertises via racing Grands Prix, and the USA is their single largest market. Then again, while Il Commendatore was alive, the Scuderia had occasion to give amiss the race at Watkins Glen because it was late in the season and they already had clinched the WDC and WCC.

It's also the cart before the horse effect, USF1's timing was off. Today they'd have had no issue with sponsorship money.

A simulated run of the new NJ street circuit in rFactor, looks like a faster Monaco with all the barriers (if that's what it's really going to be like), pretty scenery but that doesn't make a good race!

Alright, I'm sold.

Boring and and with nothing to make the track stand out from being just another track.

:hehe: I know you absolutely love your street circuits...

It's not so much that it's a street circuit, it's just an unimaginative layout. Nothing to remember it by at all. To me all tracks should have at least one memorable corner or section of track.

Track location alone will make it memorable! I'm not going to judge from some Rfactor game sim just yet. But from that it looks fast!

The sim is ridiculous, not only are the graphics poor, they're not even accurate. There's a downhill high speed sweeping left turn descending at least 100 feet in elevation with the NYC skyline at it's right... nothing memorable.

I'd rather have a great track layout than some glitzy location with no substance. We'll see which category this one falls into...

I wish people would stop mentioning the skyline for a reason that it should hold a Grand Prix, its not a sight seeing trip. Besides if we wanted a GP for the view then there are far better places than New Jersey.

The races and track might be boring but at least there is a nice view which the camera pans to a few times per race. Skyline doesn't even look nice in the day anyway

Atleast it will have fans there

Given the fact that there's a handful of crappy tracks in less than exciting locations with under 50% of attendance by fans, I think most of the American fans mind are in favor of this one. And guess what, it's not costing 200 million dollars to build from scratch. It may yield less than stellar racing, but how is that a loss when compared to Bahrain or Valencia or Hungary. If we're stuck with a pig, at least we're stuck with a glamorous pig.

Pfft, that is a lame argument. There's so many great tracks in places like France, for example, that have no race at all!

There in lies the issue, Bernie and co and F1 isn't interested in France now is it? They're interested in cash from venues that are willing to pay it. The interesting this is that according to what's being reported, this GP is getting a sweet deal, with the organizers even footing the bill for the overtime for law enforcement agencies.

I'm not arguing that there are half a dozen racetracks with history and pedigree that would yield great racing, but this is not about great racing nor a wonderful skyline to pan over in HD, it's about breaking into an untapped market. I'm guessing you'll offer the same argument when Russia comes into the calendar as well, so don't use it all up in New Jersey. :hehe:

Personally I couldn't care less about scenery, I want to see good racing and if the track pans out to be like the rFactor video, it doesn't look hopeful; the track seems very tight with few overtaking opportunities, it may be good for people who like to see wrecks as an overtake could end up in the barriers, given what has happened recently in Las Vegas, I'm not sure I want to see that!

From a TV viewer point of view; how often do we see the surrounding scenery in a broadcast?
