@bulletproof

Yep I agree modern f1 had got incredibly dull and predictable. Settling down to a bit of Sunday afternoon f1, and fall asleep after lap 10. Wake up for the pitstops and then don't bother watching the last 1/3 of the race because the winner was decided. I consoled myself, and tried to remain loyal during those "parade" years by looking further down the field. Eddie Irvine, Jean Alesi, Berger to name a few.

@Coronis Yes, the changes have spiced things up a bit, and I agree it feels too artificial. Why force teams to use both compounds and allowing refuelling would certainly bring back a strategic decision that does not feel like a computer game: "Press the enter key for maximum revs...Great overtake, extra life proceed to level 3..."

@killem2 I think the incidents at Monaco have shown that the safety aspect of the sport is necessary. If you want all out adrenalin death-wish sports, then there are a whole gulf of extreme sports out there. I think f1 moved away from that image after Senna.

@frafpdd Yep we do like a good moan. British moan about about their sports the Americans bury themselves in statistics...what is it with Baseball stats?

@fred_c_dobbs Yep Newbie alert apologies to the established crowd. Just thought I would contribute to the forum. I have been reading it for a while now. You are right though the title of the post is a little arrogant.. I didn't mean it.

The key is balancing the rules for great racing and not changing them for entertainment sake. The rules should not cheapen the f1 formula. I think that Monaco was a great race where the rules seemed to create a great racing environment. It's a balancing act with a race by race tweak at the moment.

i for one do not want to see the unlimited engines and such come back. i like that things are capped as it gives the lesser money teams a fighting chance. f1 has become better watching over the last 4yrs or so. before that i found it rather boring, especially when it was MS driving for farrari......now there's a man who should bore off already.....yawns.....

i'm not so sure about kers and drs and their worth and i'm a bit spilt on the tyres too. it can work out good for button who is the master of saving his tyres, but with the new sets wearing so quick the amount of changes can get a bit.....wearing. just as they start to race and things get interesting they are in again for another change.

on the whole though, i for one am enjoying the racing better.

Just a short inquery ok so bare with me. You have accepted the 'spec' series F1 has become and do not accept any innovation which F1 is based upon? DRS and KERS are imho a load of BS but what do I know as I ONLY have 30+yr's following the sport.

Change and innovation is part of life aswell as a part of sport, sorry if I was not GREEN enough in my explanation/opinion.

Dunno about dull and boring, but I too prefer F1 before the recent changes - especially this season's. As mentioned by others, I think KERS is a better addition to the game than DRS, as its a less 'artificial' addition. In fact, it sucks that there's a set location where 'slower' cars have the ability to gain a spot over a faster car. It makes for more overtaking no doubt and the racing more exciting to watch, but it kills the essence of racing a little IMHO.

I much prefer the earlier races with pit stops where all of fuel/tyre/timing strategies were crucial....but that's unlikely to happen again with cost-cutting.

All of us fan's are being robbed in one way or another and that get's my goat!! F1, even though I still love it, has become a farce of what it was 20+yr's ago or even later. Yes I realized thing's change but but but...... :irked:

Now having said that just possibly the new turbo era will toss a kitten into the snake pit and a flux will be seen, I'm just happy for change that's all.

here's the thing.......i like motor sport. i don't need to know the ins and outs of a ducks arse to know whether the viewing is more exciting or not. therefore, in the last 4yrs the viewing has become far more exciting for me than it was. before it was boring and predictable and i wasn't bothered whether i watched or not. i don't care how many years you've been following the sport either, it has no baring on whether i enjoy the viewing or not. i will give my opinion from my prospective as i see it, as i'm sure everyone else does. i actually have more of a rallying background, but i don't think that should stop me enjoying something else. i don't need to be an expert to give my opinion either.

So I have been giving it more thought. I believe the main opinion is that the problem with overtaking is the aero that the cars rely on.

My first thought was to really regulate the crap out of the aero (in fact I would have outlawed more of it). Is the proper way to do it through to remove all restrictions and see what the teams can do to fix the problem?

The other thing is to change the run-off areas so that they are gravel traps again which punish drivers for going off the track.

Duck's arse that is a classic term  . I think we are all getting frustrated with the show in one way or another so I would like to think we agree more than we disagree. :)
