I am probably going to put a lot of hardcore F1 fans noses out of joint, but I am growing really tired of the rule changes. This is my take on it all. The current crop of changes plus the rumours of Bernie "watering" the track randomly is turning the Sunday Spectacle into a farse. Kind of reminds me of the Monty Python sketch:

I know that the rules and controversy have featured in the history of the sport. I understand the issues of creating overtaking and not just a sunday parade. But come on was Turkey and its 80 pit stops really enjoyable - or just like watching a marathon for the incontinent?

In the end, the fastest car/driver still won. Followed by other very strong drives. Lewis was very close to a podium as well. So i dont think much changed with the rule changes. Except the follow-bility of the races.

I would prefer a liiiittle bit less tire wear, and to get rid of the DRS in exchange for a more exciting KERS formula... but so far its ok. Acceptable. Maybe the teams will spend a bit extra effort in getting their cars to make the tires last longer, so perhaps after a season or 2 we will be seeing a bit less wear.

I actually agree with you, F1 has been made completely artificial; between DRS, KERS and the fast degrading tyres + having to use both tyre compounds, it's artificial solutions for a problem that was created by FOM/FIA, this was not a problem ten years ago, I was watching some highlights of older races from 1988 to 2001 and overtaking was rife without the artificial aids!

Yepper it's getting alittle crazy isn't it.

Modern F1 had become incredibly dull, except for the wet races. So these new rule changes simply make all the teams work harder during the race, they now have to think of tyres, Kers, DRS, driver ability, pit stops, fuel loads, engine maps..... I could go on. All of these things still encapsulate the highest end of modern racing, it just means the teams and drivers have to work harder and this in turn gives us infinitely more exciting racing.

I do occasionally get that pang in my stomach saying " is this to much" but I always come to the conclusion that if I was watching this last year I would pretty much know the finishing order from lap 2.

So IMO the rule changes are a great success!!

I've always kinda had a problem with teams being forced to use both compounds, its just a waste.. Anyone else miss refuelling?

1. Agree
2. Yes

The strategic edge that manifests itself through different tyre compounds adds to the race IMO. But yea I did enjoy the excitement caused from refuelling. But we have to remember that if every team had a flawless refuel, then things wouldn't really be switched up that much. It was only the mistakes/margins between the pit crews that added to the excitement.

Actually, short fuelling and engine mode management also played into the refuelling mix. You could fuel for the entire distance and then have a splash and go at the end and throw new tires on, or you could short fill and buy some extra speed counting on that speed making more than a difference the pitstop would take (essentially giving you a tire change for free).

I would like to see the fuelling re-instituted, no limit on number of engines and getting rid of KERS and DRS. Keep the tires (give an extra set of softs, since the allocations are too few), and with refuelling it will add complexity (which I see as a good thing). Do you run the harder compound with more fuel and turn up your engine to super-maximum-supreme (is this what the magic paddle does??? hehehehe), or do you short fill, turn the engine down and baby the softs.

Alternately, you find a way to dial down the aero through Regs (make the rear wing decorative only), and let the teams completely go nuts on all the other fronts. Thereby creating the innovation that we want to see from F1.

We do have to remember that refuelling is the same as having to use both tyre compounds, different fuel loads would dictate strategy, each KG of fuel carried slows the car by 1/10th of a second I believe, now all teams have very similar (not necessarily the same) fuel load, which has been replace by having to use both compounds with the hard tyre being 1.5 - 2.0 seconds slower!

I do agree, as long as we have things that test the teams as well as the drivers, in turn making for more exciting, and engaging, viewing then that's a good thing

they need to loosen up on the safety aspect of this sport. The cards are damn near indestructible as is the gear they wear. They have spent so much effort in increasing safety full tilt since 1994, they have really taken steps backward. I still feel they should line damn near every edge of the track (by edge I mean the barrier not the actual track) with space foam and carbon fiber weave nets to absorb cars so if they go off at nearly any speed, fine, they are out of the race and still alive.

Drivers should have the fear of losing the match, not their lives.

If F1 is that s***, and has been that s*** for what your saying is from 2000 onwards.....

Then none of you moany bunch would be watching it

Come to this forum and make your very first post one to honour us all with your opinion of this season's rule changed and damned few of us will give a fig what your second post says (or any subsequent to it).
