Retroactive punishment will be impossible. Specially since most people want 'sporting' sanctions to Ferrari... so if they take away a championship pt for Ferrari now, will they remove the same pts for the other teams that HAVE used team orders in the past?? That'll be very interesting hehe

Even more... the championship is not over yet... who will police the remainder of the season to make sure team orders are not taking place. Or are they only going to punish the team orders in which one of the drivers makes the OBVIOUS representation of a team order. ie smedley and Massa?

The rule makes no sense. There;s no way to police it. The show will be better with Ferrari having a driver fighting for the championship... and since the SPIRIT OF THE RULE is to keep the spectacle going.... then... hmmm. Isnt that what Ferrari did? they followed the spirit of the rule.

A team order today is worth the same as a team order in the last race, or the beggining. A team order has no way of being proven... or "correctly issued" or even known if it would or not affected the final outcome.

Lauda is only trying to manipulate the media and the FIA into making it seem as if the fans and what should be done is a 'pasting'. No Niki... that's YOUR opinion, and of those who want somebody else to win or to fight for the WDC. Maybe because he's austrian he's fighting and hoping for his team to actually win the WDC as well.......

If I were Mr. Ferrari I would just assert that we did not tell Massa to move over, we just told him Alonso was faster. Massa did it all of his own accord. That's not against the rules. Neither is an agreement between drivers. The spirit of the law was broken and it woul dbe nice to see punishment but I think the council's hands are tied. Besides, they never punished McLaren for the times they did it.

But then Mr. Ferrari would be lying and lying is not allowed. Why bring Mclaren into this? McLaren have received plenty of excesive punishment in their time for doing things other teams do, now Ferrari have broken the rule and its their turn to take the rap.

I didn't mean to finger McLaren, I only meant to say this sort of thing has been common ever since team orders were banned and this is the first time the FIA has had a problem with it, and I find that a bit weird. Mr Ferrari is going to lie and get away with it. They might not believe him, and they might then issue a penalty for the team orders, but they won't charge him with lying.

Thats the annoying thing. The FIA do what they want to do. They may as well have no rules because they just do what they want to do. If the face fits...next season another face may fit. they've yet to convince me they can govern fairly (though so far this season has been better than of late)

Ferrari are getting in their retaliation early - best form of defence is attack and all that. Reports from the Italian press that Ferrari will take legal action if they are docked points. Messier and messier...

Ferrari and North Korea hired the same publicist.

of course they will take legal actions. I would do that, too, personally.

It's kind of like doing 75 in a 65 Mph zone. Everyone does it and it's rarely enforced, but every now and then you get a cop who decides he has to give you a ticket. So you decide to not pay the fine. You take legal action instead, go to court with the defense of everyone else was doing it... No one likes the law, everyone skirts it or ignores it for the most part. However it is still a law and you broke it so the judge will rule based on the law.

no, it's not the same.
Because a speeding limit is something that makes sense. That rule doesn't.
Also.. there are team orders (different types of team orders, maybe, but team orders nonetheless) in *each and every race* but nobody gets ever punished. Which is fine.
But then *I* do it for the *first* place of the GP in a more obvious way, and now I did something wrong for the sport? Are you kidding me?

There are all kinds of rules on the books that don't make sense and people break all the time. People have been convicted of sodomy which is still illegal in a lot of countries.

Ignoring the issue of proving the rule was broken, the court's going to have to decide on a punishment considering the accursed can point to several times when its been done but others have got off scott free.

Yes I certainly did, and that's why I clarified it for you since you're arguing that the rule is stupid therefor you shouldn't see any consequences. The legal system works more like my example. What you should be arguing is to have the rule changed next year, that argument would hold water.
