Yes and no. I think most had the K-Series Rover in them which is prone to HGF. However a lot of owners have taken advantage of HGF to stick an Audi or Honda engine in their Elise which makes them shockingly quick.

Seeing as I'm still a couple of years off the driving age I know my first cars will be shameful, but for my first proper investment of a few grand I'd love an old VW Polo;

Friend of mine has one. Looks very nice in black. Not to mention the interior is very modern and nice.
