Indeed hence why TWR Arrows had #1 on their car in 1997 after Williams booted Damon Hill out after becoming world champion!

You know on the livery point of this, its going to be confusing having 4 silver cars, while i suspect Mercedes will not have the chrome finish it will still make it hard to tell from a distance. I understand from a marketing point of view that McLaren would want to keep their livery but lets be honest its silver for Mercedes sake. But perhaps they are awaiting (or i am hanging for atleast) a change when they become a complete constructor as Mercedes have.

Personally I would like to see a return to the red and white livery of the pre-Mercedes McLaren, when I think of McLaren, that's how it looks!

yeah and you notice the silver to tie in with Vodafone McLaren. s*** like that and all the other marketing media are the reasons why they are keeping the silver livery.

Yeah one year, then west came in and the new livery.
and i remember at Monaco that year DC lost his helmet and had to borrow Schumachers ( though i like to say Schumi's was the only one that would fit his jaw it was really down to the Marlboro sponsors) so seeing his helmet driving around in the red and white was the closest thing youd have got to Schumi driving a McLaren

Marlboro ended their sponsorship of the team in 1996, which ended the famous red and white McLaren livery.

but check F1.com and the 95 season youll see its McLaren Mercedes the same year Mika had that awful crash in Adelaide in the red and white McLaren.

McLaren Mercedes 1995 season. infact 96 was their last year with Marlboro 97 was the first West livery.

OK, last post on the subject as this is diverting the thread from it's Brawn/Mercedes tie-up origins.

My original point is I remember the McLaren livery before West/Mercedes being the red and white Marlboro livery so I would like to see a return which is unlikely I know as tobacco sponsorship is now banned in most countries! The red and white are classic McLaren colours as they ran for so many years with that livery!
