An F1 season free of controversy? Has that ever happened?
Hello to everyone,
I am new here but I watch F1 since the mid 80's as A kid and I have to say that I feel that this was the worse F1 season since I started watching it.
Many "secrets" were revealed during this year that made us all feel that it is not A fair sports anymore, or maybe it never was?!
I and also people with whom I discussed f1 have lost the trust in it and feel that all the races are all fixed, everything there is bogus.
There are many reasons for this feeling, logical reasons but the main reason why this was one of the worse ever F1 seasons was Brawn GP, and to be more accurate it was because Brawn GP won the constructor and drivers championships.
The winning of Brawn GP is not logical, it is not logical that they won 8 out of the 16 races in their maiden season.
It is not logical because:
1. They were just established in March 2009.
2. They didn't have an engine until the very last moment.
3. They didn't practice at all before the season started.
Yet they were able to win 8 out of 16 races, win from the very first race, days after the team was established (yeah I remember that many of the Honda folks continue working for Brawn but lets also remember that Honda was not one of the top teams).
After they were not able to use the Honda engine they bought the Mercedes engine and were able to extract from it more than the team that produced it!!
Winning without practicing with it, without doing almost any fine tuning, without studying it (I guess the people that work at McLaren Mercedes and the other teams that used this engine are not so smart, or maybe the Brawn workers are all geniuses?).
We should also remember that when Fisichella moved to Ferrari A couple of months ago after racing for Force India (and practicing before the season began with Force India), he said that it isn't going to be easy (he proved to be correct) because due to the rules and regulations he cannot practice in the Ferrari car, even Raikkonen said in an interview that he is glad that Fisichella joined Ferrari but it is not going to be easy for him because each car in the F1 is so individual that it takes lots of practise to get used to each one of them.
And Brawn won from race one with Jenson Button when he didn't even sit in his new teams car, he beat everyone while he and Barichello were the only drivers that didn't practise, A thing that other teams and drivers were doing for months, Brawn GP beat teams that have been in F1 since ever, teams like Mclaren Mercedes, Ferrari, Toyota, Bmw etc that spend each and every year millions and millions of dollars/euros/pounds in developing their cars, teams that have their own race circuits and wind tunnels and much more.
They are trying to "sell" us that it was the "diffuser" that made the difference (reminding you'll that Williams and Toyota used the same configuration like Brawn), or you can hear Ross saying in interviews lately that prepaired A couple of cars almost 15 months before the 2009 season began.
Well if that is true Ross Brawn has to be psychic no? After all he knew almost 15 months before the season began that he will have A team of his own, he looked into the mind of Bernie and knew all the changes Bernie would introduce into the F1 (reminding you'll there were many changes in each of the last two seasons, many of them not logical at all).
If Brawn would have taken Schumacher or Hakkinen or the late Ayrton Senna at their prime and told us that they have A driver that has proven himself and won championships and therefore they have an advantage over teams with less capable drivers maybe they would have A point but I want to remind you'll that before this season he has already driven for "Williams", "Benneton", "Renault", "Bar" and "Honda" in the F1 for 9 seasons in all prior to this one, he has participated in over 150 F1 races prior to this season and he won just once and now "suddenly" he won 6 races in one season.
I just hope that the next season will be free of controversy and bring back some dignity to the F1.
Here we go again with those conspiracy aficionados - next you'll be telling us that Galilei was a scam artist and the sun does in fact revolve around the earth...
A last comment, I agree with you'll that almost in every season there are controversies (I haven't forgotten the Renault-Briatore-Alonso story that came out this year about the previous season, and much more), I just think that this season had the biggest ones ever, it was purely A corrupted season.
I take it Jacob doesn't realise that Honda poured nearly $400m in to the car and had three separate designs in three different wind tunnels from quite early on last year? I'm also going to assume that he doesn't realise that the dimensions of the Honda and Mercedes engines were very similar.
