I certainly think its time that the regulations stated in these cases that the teams must remove a car from the track when something is hanging off the car ( eg Ferrarri Exaust ) or Flapping a tyre carcass smashing bodywork off the car or front wings stuck under the car floor. I do not however want to see less cars on the starting grid as a result of over zealous officials. The Stewards should reconsider their decision in the light that serious financial repercusions culd be felt at Valencia. Unless of course Marc Gene could race in Phillipe's place. I think he is a perfectly adeaquate driver for the job.

To bring in such a regulation, they would need to be unrealistically precise about what is and isn't allowed. There is a big difference between a bit of flapping bodywork and a loose wheel. The teams are experienced and competent (we hope) organisations. They shouldn't need to be "hand held" by being told exactly what is and isn't allowed, they should be able to make their own judgements, and they should be penalised if these judgements are not reasonable or if they create excessively dangerous situations. As happened yesterday.

Oh come on the Ferrari exhasut was hardly a bit of flappying body work it was a bloody great chunk of metal.

You can't say for sure renault didn't think the wheel wouldn't come of either.

Ferrari made a bad judment and got away with it on safty and punishment grounds.

Renault made a bad judment got away with on safty grounds but then got a WELL over the top punisment

I realise that the right thing to do would have been to park the car, but I don't think Alonso realised that the wheel was loose until the frisbee came off. Certainly drivers have been losing wheels for years and haven't parked. Alonso was still in a race and he still had a car which could have finished (damn fuel pump)

At the end of the day who loses out the most? The spectator.
Formula One needs to get its head out of its own arsecheeks and start looking at the big picture. Attendance is down, and I doubt it'll be very high if there is no Alonso in Spain.

Excellent point.

Valencia tells FIA to think of the fans

By Pablo Elizalde Monday, July 27th 2009, 11:26 GMT

European Grand Prix organiser Valmor Sport has called on the FIA to think about the Spanish fans after the Renault team was suspended from the Valencia race.

The French squad will not be able to race in Spain in three weeks time after the Hungarian GP stewards deemed the team had allowed its star driver Fernando Alonso to leave the pitlane with a dangerously loose wheel.

Renault has appealed the decision, but it could mean thousands of Spanish fans who had bought tickets to see Alonso are likely to miss the two-time champion.

The decision will also be a big hit for the race organisers, who had already announced they were reducing the seat capacity for this year's event.

Jorge Martinez Aspar, vice-president of Valmor Sport, said he understood that the FIA is putting safety first, but he says the fans should not be hurt by its decision.

"We believe it (the FIA) must also think of the fans and, as everybody knows, a lot of them have bought tickets to see Fernando Alonso racing in Valencia," Aspar told the EFE news agency.

"We believe they must not be the ones paying for this decision.

"We are going to be looking closely at the verdict of the appeal and we have been in contact with the Spanish Federation, with the Renault team, and with Fernando Alonso's people. We would like to have him on the grid in the Valencia grand prix.

"It would be a shame if he missed the race and we are confident that he will be able to race, although we know it will be hard especially considering the other accidents that took place over the weekend.

"What happened is serious, but we hope it doesn't hurt the European Grand Prix or the fans."

EFE also quoted Campos Meta1 team boss Adrian Campos as saying that Alonso's absence from the race would be "a disaster."

"If things were already not going well for the Valencia grand prix, this is just what was needed," said Campos.

True, but i again bring up Ferrari @ France that in my opinion was just as risky if not more so than this they got away scot free.
.

true the rules are if a car has loose body work it should be black flagged. But Kimi wasnt, Thats what got everyones beef at the time.
And think about it i bet that piece of exhaust weighed more than 800g so that debris flying off could have caused the same damage as the damper that hit Massa.

Begs the question if the stewards had enough conviction to ban Renault then why didnt they just black flag Alonso at the time?

I've already stated that I'm not going to play silly games where EVERYTHING is somehow about Ferrari. If you want to have childish point-scoring arguments find someone else to do it with.

You haven't even addressed the points, such as relative danger, that I did raise in a previous post. So you certainly don't deserve a reasoned answer here.

Whoever came up with that penalty is a dumb*ss. So you're gonna suspend the star attraction's team in his home GP??? :bs: I truly don't understand FIA's train of thought sometimes. Why didn''t they just levy Renault with some insane fine like they did McLaren in 2007 rather than take revenue out of their own pockets by pissing off the Spanish fans. :nono: How moronic is that???

Oh god why do you think i'm bringing this up to hurt Ferrari i'm not? and i'm not trying to have silly arguments with you either. THis has nothing to do with the team it could be Mclaren the point is the FIA did nothing.

And don't act so stuck up either "you don't deserve a reasoned answer here"

Your other post dodged the issue and said it was an end plate no, it was a Big peice of metal proberly big enough and heavy enough to have injured a driver as seriously as Massa.

Yet because nothing happened no punishment was made what kinda of BS is that?

Oh and look back on that incident because i said the SAME THING on the fourms after it happened.

im a bit behind as internet been off for the weekend,

if renault knew about it and still sent him, yeah i agree, a penalty of some sort is right, cause its very dangerous, but why would you send someone out if the wheel wasnt on? you wouldnt,

i will not be watching the valencia gp! only watched half of this one!
#137173
"Whoever came up with that penalty is a dumb*ss. So you're gonna suspend the star attraction's team in his home GP???"

Exactly....a team that knowingly sends out a car with a loose wheel just after Surtees and Massa rightly deserve the penalty.

Even if the team was there the stands would be empty last years race was probably the most boring F1 race I've ever seen!
