Apart from Pulling over, theres not much more they could of done.

Like i said earlier, Ferrari in France last year was as dangerous Webber nearly crashing into Kimi in the pitlane was more dangerous.

it was wrong for them to do it and perhaps insensative but i think people are upset by the inconsitancy of the punishment not the penalty being applied or not

They could have not sent Alonso out until the wheel was attached properly. And if they couldn't attach the wheel properly, then they could have retired him. There was absolutely no need to send him out on the track like that.

Bar the wheel man and maybe one or two surrounding the team wouldn't have known until they released Alonso

But according to the FIA they have proof that Renault released Fernando knowing that the wheel could be loose also once the wheel was quite clearly loose they never asked for Fernando to pull over. I think the not pulling over bit is similar to the situation that Vettel was in at Oz when he didn't pull over when he had his damaged car the stewards didn't like that either.

I think they need a whip for this season. I think it needs to be strict, very strict!

But this year Longbow, i understand last year but this year. Just wrong, you must of been a little more strict with Massa?

:censored: sake.

I would be on my best behavior!!

Very simple what happened when I think about it.

Had this happened a few weeks ago at Nurburgring, no problem.

But with the recent accidents, the stewarts clearly decided, Renault decision not to get Alonso to pull of to the side of the track caused the wheel to fly of, and could have potentially caused injury to another driver.

Any other team would have done the same thing, but they won't now seeing as they've made an example of Renault.

Yeh it looked like the wheelman knew but the lollypop was already lifted by then.

They fined the team though for that and punished them, not the drivers.

There are many methods to do that, but allow the drivers to remain free to race.

What are the FIA going to do? Release Lie-Gate style transmissions? Pfft, I bet we'll see a wheel off in the next few years and nothing will be done bar a fine!

Completely right man, there was not time to stop it!

Then the wheel man and those surrounding the car shouldn't have sent them out. They are supposed to have systems by which the car is not released until all the wheels are on. We've all seen them making signals to indicate that the wheel change (for their wheel) is finished. This is no excuse whatsoever.

Okay, so I know this is a hypothetical - but what if that wheel had rolled off down the pitlane and wiped out a pitcrew. You just *do not* release a driver when you KNOW that a wheel is not properly attatched.

If it was a component failure, no big deal those things happen. But given Renault's ignorance of the situation, plus recent events, their inaction was inexcusable. It doesn't take two seconds to say "Fernando, stop the car". Perhaps a complete ban for a race is a touch harsh, mind you.

Does rather remind me of Kimi's incident last year.... yet more Steward inconsistency.

But as soon as they found out the tyre was loose shouldn't of they told Alonso to stop.

Even if we somehow assume that Renault couldn't possibly have stopped Alonso as he left the pitlane, they still should not have let Alonso drive around the track with a lose wheel. There are plenty of places for cars to pull of the track and park. Renault played an unforgivably dangerous game trying to keep their man in the race, and deserve a serious penalty for it.
