What you can directly compare on drivers is open track mistakes. What they do wrong says as much about them as how fast the car goes....unless of course they are team mates driving the same car. The fact is that Lewis made a lot of mistakes in 2007 and cost his team the championship..that can't be argued. He did a little better in 2008, but still his mistakes very nearly cost the team again. Button, on the other hand, has not put a wheel wrong at all this season. He is blowing away the competition in points but on track there is nearly always someone pushing him...yet not one single wheel wrong. If he made the mistakes that Lewis is famous for, the points battle would not be nearly this lopsided. For a guy that has never been up at the front like this, I personally find Button's current performance to be amazing. It takes a lot of discipline to keep your head down like he has, and despite all of the success this season...I have not once heard that he has said:
"You see, given a good car I am the man....I'm every bit as good as Senna or Schumacher." nor "Well, Vettel might have won that race if he had more balls" etc
Button is fast, he is likable, and he knows when to keep his mouth shut. He doesn't talk smack about other drivers in the press, nor has he chosen to punt any backmarkers off the track for fun...even when he laps LH who has had no problem doing so in the past.
