Now, this is an intriguing post. Who is the better driver? Now Lewis had an awesome first two years? Both Jenson and Lewis were given awesome machines at the beginning of their years and only one dominated and that is Lewis? Now if in Turkey McLaren are up to scratch and challenging the likes of Brawn, who will come out on top? Take away the strategy etc. On the corners and personal performance, who would be king? :scratchchin:

Ha! Shall we have a sweepstake on how many pages this lasts before it gets ugly?

Hamilton is probably outright quicker (slightly) and better at overtaking, but Button is more consistent, and looks after the car/tyres better... If you put them both in cars that worked well, Button would come out on top, but give them both a dog of a car and you could argue that Hamilton would do better there.

It will be locked by tomorrow, but it sprung in my mind that we have never had 2 brits at the top at the same time. Now Lewis is awesome and I hope one day I can match his pace in GP2. But with Button, he's smooth and collected, but with over taking Hamilton is allot more aggressive and has impressed me the most out of the two, I hope McLaren are up to scratch in 2 weeks!

Me personally i would go for Hamilton, As far as driving goes He`s in a crap car but still averaging mid table resluts and the odd point most races, look at his team mate Kovalinen for example in the same car but cant even finish a race let alone score a point, this is where Lewis wins for me a good driver in a crap car but still scoring, Buttons had a crap car for years and hardly scored a point ever till this season

i cant see Mclaren`s performance changing enough before Tunkey to compete with the Brawns but they will be back in it at some point :)

Really? 2006 springs to mind...

And what about his performance in 2004? Spectacular. As for the RA107 and RA108, they make this year's MP4-24 look like championship material.

Hamilton for me, although I prefer Button in terms of who I cheer for. Hamilton is faster and less experienced so he will learn more about setups and tire conservation as he goes. He's already won a WDC without being too hot on race setup so his pace is obviously pretty good. Jenson's never really been devastatingly fast, but he's really smooth and keeps his focus over a whole race. For me, i like really fast drivers so it's Hamilton for me

I'd agree. Hamiton is the better fighter. But Button is better at getting fast, consistent, times out of his car while preserving it and its tyres. If we have to make a Prost & Senna comparison, Hamilton is more like Senna, while Button is more like Prost.

Hakkinen vs. Schumacher: Hamilton is more like Schumacher, Button is more like Hakkinen.

Schumacher vs. Hill: Hamilton more like Schumacher, Button more like Hill.

May I just object, quite loudly, about the idea that F1 has never had 2 Brits in the top league at the same time?

:director:OH YES WE HAVE

Thanks.

Oh & Button is more consistent & suits modern F1 better than Lewis does.

If you mean F1, then that's quite frequent. But have there been many cases British champions driving at the same time?

Hawthorne & Moss were top drivers, but Moss never won the championship and Hawthorne left too soon.

Clarke and Hill for sure. Hill being a past champion during Clarke's glory years. Hill and Stewart.

I'm sure there are some obvious examples I've missed.

Edit: Surtees. Overlapping Hill & Clarke. That's three of them at once.

Oh & Button is more consistent & suits modern F1 better than Lewis does.

Not sure about that. Both look less impressive when the cars are no good, look much better when the cars are good.

That's true of all drivers though.

Lewis is More focused as a driver, prob because of his long term relationship with McLaren. And more consistent when not under pressure based on 2007.

For Lewis's 2 full seasons in F1 he's matched his team mate or beaten them.

it took Jenson 3 seasons to comprehensivly beat his team mate and 7 to win a race, arguably he hasn't been a race winning car until now but the 04 car was 2nd best and i think with say Lewis, Alonso or Kimi that car could of Won races.

Currently Jenson is doing great but from Lewis past performance vs Jensons i'd say he is the superior driver.

In the same car Lewis would be faster.

Given the same equipment I believe that Lewis would probably win out of the pair simply because of his aggressive attitude to overtaking, Jenson is definitely the smoother driver and looks after his car better but I believe he lacks aggression on the track; has he overtaken a leading competitor on the track this year? He seems to win a lot of races based upon strategy; which of course is managed by the legendary strategist that is Ross Brawn!
