After Bernie Ecclestone hinted in Bahrain that a return to Indianapolis might be on the cards in the near future, Indianapolis Speedway are playing down the claims.
A spokesman for the circuit commented to the Indianapolis Business Journal, “We continue to have dialogue with Formula 1 and we’ve long maintained we are interested in hosting their events.”
Eric Powell has also backed up this viewpoint – in an interview with the Indy Star said, “In terms of negotiations, nothing is happening at this time. We would love to have Formula One in Indianapolis. We feel this is the best venue for Formula One in the United States.”
The last F1 race at Indianapolis was in 2007 which saw Lewis Hamilton win. Indianapolis is also famous for the tyre incident which saw just six cars compete in 2005 after Michelin withdrew from the race for safety reasons.
