Will there be a fourth Winter Test Venue?

There are rumours of a fourth circuit in Spain potentially being used as a late winter testing venue. The Circuito Monteblanco, located near Seville in the south of Spain, has just received a type-1 FIA license which allows it to host GP2 races and F1 tests. Circuit director Michel Ligonnet has said they are not aiming to compete with Barcelona and the track was built primarily for testing although it is likely to host domestic GT and F3 series.

The 4.5km long track has just been resurfaced with asphalt meaning it has the potential to host a late Formula 1 winter test towards the end of January. The track can be modified to provide several different layouts and also features an irrigation system for easily testing wet running. The track also boasts an extra loop which winds around hotels and offices located within the track. The loop is based on the famous Mirabeau and Loewe’s Hairpin from Monte-Carlos ‘Circuit de Monaco’.
