Mosley backs format change

Max Mosley has said the FIA would back Flavio Briatore and Bernie Ecclestone’s proposal to change the F1 race format. Earlier this year, Renault boss Flavio Briatore said he would like to make F1 more exciting by taking inspiration from GP2 and having two races of differing lengths, possibly with a partially reversed grid for the second race.

Speaking to magazine Autosprint, Mosley said, “If people like Flavio or Bernie want to change the regulations, it’s all fine for us as long as they are fair rules, equal for all.” However, he suggested that instead of the radical new format, other alternatives should also be considered, such as changing the design of the cars and/or race circuits to make overtaking easier.
