Many F1 fans are excited by the prospect of more street circuits being added to the Formula 1 calendar. However, Ferrari test driver Marc Gene is not amongst those championing these new circuits, stating that he believes that their introduction would be against the sport’s push for better safety.
“It is definitely not going to be safer for drivers,” Gene explained. “With the exception of Monaco, the occurrence of street races has been fading over the years. I don’t think it is a good idea that they start coming back, obviously because of safety, but also in terms of the spectacle because you almost never see overtaking on a street circuit. Just from the perspective of a driver, I am not in favour.”
