Gap to RBR and Ferrari closed, McLaren reckon

McLaren have said that they are confident they will be able to run at the front at this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix at the Circuit de Catalunya.

The team took a one-two last time out in China and think they have closed the gap in terms of overall pace to the front-running Red Bull and Ferrari cars.

Speaking to reporters during a phone-in yesterday, the designer of the MP4-25 said the team had continued to make progress.

” I’d like to think that we can put a car on the front in Barcelona. We know that we’ve made a decent step forwards, but we know that Red Bull, Mercedes have announced significant changes and Ferrari are going to bring their own drag reduction rear wing, ” Goss said.

“We certainly have closed the gap. In China barring the slip up Lewis had in qualifying we proved that we had closed the gap. We were probably only 2 or 3 tenths off the Red Bull in qualifying pace.”
