I find that Q1 & Q2 are a tad boring coz they have little bearing on the final top 10. My idea is to accumulate the times over the sessions.
I have used Japan Qualifying as an example.
In this case the top 10 are the same drivers but the positions are different.

Actual Grid
1. Vettel
2. Webber
3. Hamilton
4. Kubica
5. Alonso
6. Button
7. Rosberg
8. Barrichello
9. Hulkenberg
10. Schumacher

After Q2 these were the times
1. Vettel 3:03.2
2. Webber 3:03.7
3. Rosberg 3:04.1
4. Hulkenberg 3:04.1
5. Hamilton 3:04.3
6. Barrichello 3:04.3
7. Alonso 3:04.4
8. Button 3:04.4
9. Schumacher 3:04.6
10. Kubica 3:04.8

After Q3
1. Vettel 4:34.0
2. Webber 4:34.6
3. Hamilton 4:35.5
4. Rosberg 4:35.6
5. Hulkenberg 4:35.7
6. Alonso 4:35.72
7. Barrichello 4:35.77
8. Button 4:35.78
9. Kubica 4:36.0
10. Schumacher 4:36.4

What do you think??

Simply a case of thinking too much about something you cannot change so why bother?

This statement alone says everything we, or atleast I, need to know and that is you have no clue but thats ok, we can learn ya  .

I guess i'm lucky that i can take interest from battles lower down the grid too.

My own personal idea for qualifying was just to make Q1 a one lap shootout, that would throw a few curveballs.

Quali as is is fantastic - no need to change it whatsoever. :director:

Quoted for Truth

Making Qualifying into 3 sessions is probably one of the best decisions f1 ever made to improve the show

A major part of the excitement in F1 is the 'first past the post' format. Having to continually back-calculate while the last laps are being run would add a layer of confusion and uncertainty which would definitely detract from the spectacle. Let's keep it as a sudden-death shoot-out.

No need to change it. Just need to wait until Lotus,Virgin and HRT can challengne STR. I'd imagine Lotus will in 2011 and I reckon Virgin/HRT will in 2012

I was thankful about the elimination system because there is much less chance of getting held up for the top drivers in the final session as there's lot more space to work with!

How about making it into 4 sessions? Last session for the Top 5 to shoot out again, 7 minutes time given, shorten Q1 and 2 by 5 minutes each? And no breaks in between Q1 and Q2.

Mainly, it would contribute to a massive 1 hour rush and teams are bound to falter time to time. :D
