Currently in Philly I tasted my first roo dinner. It was from the loin and actually quite nice. Just wondering how it would compare to the tail. Any Aussies enlighten me?

Aboriginals preferred to eat the tail, But ive only had roo a few times myself, but that was only the loin meat also. Its a lean red meat compared to its placental counterparts but its tough to chew. The tails alot easier to eat apparently thus a delicacy of the roo meat.

I had heard the roo's tail is comparable to ox tails and very tasty.

Yes, I noticed it, too - it's a bit tough, but not bad at all (I had it medium). And the taste is very pleasant, probably depends a lot on how/with what it is prepared. Thus, another one checked off on my list

I've never claimed to be a vegetarian, though I'm a 'facultative' vegetarian, meaning I can go (and do go) w/o meat for days on end. However, I eat meat, especially of the best or interesting kind, but gladly forgo crap such as burgers, sausage, cold cuts, etc., just to have my daily meat - I prefer a veggie burger or nothing like meat at all instead. And I'm strict at not eating pork. Does that clarify it?

There are many health reasons to not eat pork. I generally keep my intake of red meat (such as beef) low anyway.

Is that due to the risks of parasites and other potentially harmful bacteria found on meat, or do you have other reasons?

Edit: I suppose fat, and the ratio of fat to saturated fat is also a reason to eat less red meat, too.

That's a small part of it yes.
