"best" of all time? that was a crappy list and totally disregarded anything from the 70s down. the compiler sure does think any over take into turn 1 at Brazil must automatically be special! :hehe:

It's kinda bonkers to try and make this list. There's too many overtakes.

That was a pretty poor list. They're all good moves, but not the best. And why does everyone rate Hakkinen taking Schumacher at Spa in 2000 as the best ever?

because it was fast, and cleaver.

Still nowhere near the best of all time, though.

Was Mansell's move on Berger there? The net here is slooooow....

Cause it was spectacular i guess, what with the backmarker in the middle of them. It was essentially just a slipstream though, so i can see your point.

its up there, i think if its a move you don't see comming and when it does happen its brilliant and your like "how did he do that"

Lewis on Kimi Monza 07 was like that,

A poor list, except for the Mansell overtaking moves.

Because it takes huge bravery to do what Hakkinen did. When they both came up behind the back-marker to lap him, at the point he looked in his (crappy F1) mirrors, all he would have seen was Schumacher. When Schumacher got into the slipstream to overtake he wouldn't have known that Hakkinen was there too, not in the split second between Schumacher pulling one side and Hakkinen going to the other. In most circumstances like this, both overtaking drivers would have gone the same side, as you'd expect the back-marker to move the other way. When Hakkinen took the decision to go the other side and out-brake Schumacher, there would have been a strong possibility that he would have had a coming together at high speed with the back-marker before he even got past him, and yet another strong possibility that Schumacher would not have given up the corner.

Simply put, the move itself was brilliant, but the actual split second thinking, sheer guts and final execution are what in my opinion does make it the best overtake in recent history (i.e. the past 15 years or so).

For those who don't want to watch it:

15. Hakkinen v. Schumacher - Monza 1998
14. Barrichello v. Raikkonen - Silverstone 2003
13. Coulthard v. Schumacher - Interlagos 2001
12. Raikkonen v. Fisichella - Suzuka 2005
11. Mansell v. Berger - Mexico 1990
10. Alonso v. Schumacher - Hungary 2006
9. Montoya v. Schumacher - Spa 2004
8. Mansell v. Piquet - Silverstone 1987
7. Villeneuve v. Schumacher - Estoril 1996
6. Schumacher v. Raikkonen - Brazil 2006
5. Montoya v. Schumacher - Brazil 2001
4. Mansell v. Senna - Spain 1991
3. Alonso v. Schumacher - Suzuka 2005
2. PIquet v. Senna - Hungary 1986
1. Hakkinen v. Schumacher - Spa 2000

Certainly some good ones there but there are some others that I could put in like Alesi on Senna, Raikkonen on Montoya at Hockenheim

How the f*%k do you guys remember these overtaking moves from years ago? I struggle to remember any from last season never mind years and years ago, Is my memory that poor? :yikes:

Piquet powersliding after passing Senna in Hungary was awesome I remember watching that race as if it was yesterday. One great pass that seems to be forgotten is when Mansell passed Piquet for the lead on the outside thru Beausset at the French GP at Paul Ricard. I cannot remember what year it was, either '84-'85-'86?
