Cause it was spectacular i guess, what with the backmarker in the middle of them. It was essentially just a slipstream though, so i can see your point.

Because it takes huge bravery to do what Hakkinen did. When they both came up behind the back-marker to lap him, at the point he looked in his (crappy F1) mirrors, all he would have seen was Schumacher. When Schumacher got into the slipstream to overtake he wouldn't have known that Hakkinen was there too, not in the split second between Schumacher pulling one side and Hakkinen going to the other. In most circumstances like this, both overtaking drivers would have gone the same side, as you'd expect the back-marker to move the other way. When Hakkinen took the decision to go the other side and out-brake Schumacher, there would have been a strong possibility that he would have had a coming together at high speed with the back-marker before he even got past him, and yet another strong possibility that Schumacher would not have given up the corner.

Simply put, the move itself was brilliant, but the actual split second thinking, sheer guts and final execution are what in my opinion does make it the best overtake in recent history (i.e. the past 15 years or so).

How the f*%k do you guys remember these overtaking moves from years ago? I struggle to remember any from last season never mind years and years ago, Is my memory that poor?

Piquet powersliding after passing Senna in Hungary was awesome I remember watching that race as if it was yesterday. One great pass that seems to be forgotten is when Mansell passed Piquet for the lead on the outside thru Beausset at the French GP at Paul Ricard. I cannot remember what year it was, either '84-'85-'86?
