Well, a while ago I got the demo of this game, though I didn't have any real hopes for it. Not that it wouldn't be a good game, it certainly looked great, but I had no hopes of it working for me, because I'm a Linux user and less games can be made to work on it than on Windows. But, luckily, I got it running perfectly in Wine, so I bought the full version of it and I must say that it's awesome. You get five open-wheel single seaters, including a Formula BMW and BMW F1.06, as well as around 15 road cars. There are six or seven tracks with various configurations, both street and rally.

You can also modify the cars' skins to make them look similar to others. For example, I have a skin that makes the F1.06 look like an F2007, MP4-22, MP4-12, Jordan 199, BAR 001, Williams FW30, Benetton 195 and more. And it's really good in terms of graphics and sounds, handling etc. You even get a pit lane speed limiter in the F1.06! :D

The only problem is damage. Things don't break off, they just crumple more and more, but I think that will be improved eventually. And you can only slightly damage your engine, not kill it, and you don't get gearbox, transmission failures etc.

But I would definitely advise anyone who wants a good, cheap (£12 or £24 - £24 gets you everything, and you can't get the F1.06 in the £12 version) game for the computer to try this. I'm looking to get a wheel now, because playing with a keyboard is really difficult, since you can't apply varied levels of pressure on the throttle and brakes. I'll have a clip of me doing a few laps up soon, for those who are interested. In a Jordan, of course! :P

I have been playing this game for about 4 months now and it is great. even bought a G25 to play it with.

I prefer driving the FOX to the F1.06 though

The FOX is actually a lot of fun to drive. I just thought that people here would probably appreciate the F1.06 lapping somewhere like Aston a few times. :P

I want to use the FO8 a little more, but due to its lack of traction control and the fact that I am using a keyboard, it's almost impossible to control out of slow corners. Really need a pedal for that one.

not many people race to FO8, but I know what you mean about driving it, even with the pedals I spend most of my time looking straight at the corner I have just come around driving it. I think the F1.06 is a lot easier to drive than the FOX, however the F.BMW is a lot of fun but a bit slow on the longer tracks

Actually, I find the FOX a little easier to drive than the F1.06, however that's probably because the F1.06 really requires more care when it comes to braking and you can't really get that by pressing a button on the keyboard. The FBM is good because it is really easy to get used to, so everyone can drive it at a competitive level, even those like me with only a keyboard. Of course, the FOX isn't terribly difficult to drive once you realise that you can't just jump straight on to the throttle when you come out of a corner.

All the open wheel cars are really great. But I find the FO8 to be the most enjoyable to drive. Once you become smooth its very fun especially on track South City Long : D There are just so many great features LFS offers that make it a really great sim.

I really wish I could actually use the FO8 to see what it's like to drive properly. If I can get a compatible wheel then I will be able to do so, but currently that's proving difficult. The FOX is easy enough to drive with a keyboard and I only spin every now and then. Of course, I want to be a little better before I start playing online. Can't really play against the AI because they don't move around you, they just move through you. Knocking you into several walls and obstacles along the way, mind...

Yeah the AI can be pretty brutal but they get better the more laps they do. Whats quite entertaining is watching the AI drive the F1, preferably from the onboard view :D Try using a mouse instead of the keyboard.

I used a trackerball for a while, it took me about a month to get up to the same sort of speed when i swapped to the wheel.

as long as you are not that bad online then people don't get upset with you, as long as you can do a lap without crashing. I spend a lot of time on the redline servers and never had a problem

Well, that's where my problem lies, I guess. If I do five laps without a mistake, chances are I could carry on to do fifty. But as soon as I make a mistake, I seem to make one every lap after that. So I need some practice.

what state are your tyres in after a run? I used to find using keys that I would chew the front tyres

I get a similar kind of thing.

The main problem when it comes to the mistakes is that after making one, on the next lap I'll be trying too hard to not make it again and end up making an even bigger one, and it sort of just mounts up from there onwards.

it is all down to practice mate, my biggest thing is when I realise it has gone wrong I slam on the brakes and red spot all the tyres and that is the end of that lol

Might have to get a forumula1 server running :-)

That'd be grand, so it would. I'd play. Or at least, try :P

I would love for there to be a new F1-specific racing sim that was as good as, if not better than, LFS. I'm hoping that whoever makes the next F1 game gets it right...

TBH I have not bought an F1 game for ages, In fact it was the EA game when Jaguar first started out and they had the best car on the grid according to the game, so throught the year that sort of niggled on me and then it got to the first F1 USA GP and it did not have a clue at what the track was like.
