I think It would only further increase the gap between the bigger and smaller teams. Some struggle to put two cars on the grid let alone three.Lets face it knowing ferrari they would just use the third car for testing new parts most of the time.Something the smaller teams wouldn't have the luxury of.

I know what you mean about Kubica though, funny how last time he came up with this idea it was because he had two drivers signed up and he knew Schumi was coming back. :hehe:

I say no to three cars on the grounds McLaren are the only ones with the balls to put two good drivers in the same team,so having one great and two average in a team wouldn't do anyone any good.

maybe there should be rules for the 3rd car, like they used to with the friday testing.

Driver must of raced in less than 20gp's in the last 5 years sort of rule.
The 3rd car will no score any points.
The 3rd car must be of the same spec as at least one of the 1'st 2 cars.

I'm all for 3 car teams. It is a good idea.

What I would like to see are the like of Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull and even Merc being allowed to build a 3rd car but they have to hire this out to the minnows. Give them a change of getting a few good results, a bit more exposure, a lot more cash and ultimately they may become competitive rather than constantly hanging about at the back of the field.

I'm all for a third car in FP; let younger/test drivers get a go in a car without risking the race car of the established drivers, I don't want three cars per team racing on Sunday afternoon; and it wouldn't be possible; there's only 26 grid spots; which would mean that we'd have pre-qualifying again; 10 cars wouldn't make it, so Lotus, Virgin and HRT won't end up on the starting grid!

Couldn't agree with you more on all points, but don't overlook the fact that it would also mean more grid girls. :hehe:

That would be akin to selling chassis to other teams when F1 is about constructors. teams make their own cars. LDM wants 3 cars for his team, three red cars covered in Shell and Subliminal Marlboro stickers not a Ferrari in HRT stickers.

McLaren is correct, allow teams more test time and give teams five through twelve in WCC points even more test days. We've had too many races where race positions seventh and lower are lapped before checkered flag. Three car teams would only create more rolling chicanes.

I'm all for 3 car teams.
I'm completely in favour of a team being allowed unlimited practice.
I'm all for getting rid of teams that can't hack it at F1 level.

I'd rather see competitive cars racing than hand-outs given to keep non-competitive cars in the way.
I'd rather see the shackles lifted from the designers, than keep hobbling teams to ensure GP2 standard cars race in what should be F1 events.

F1 should be at the pinnacle of motor racing, that means the best and that means you got to spend and innovate.

I'm starting to think though that innovation is not necessarily good for F1. Drivers will find it hard to get any credit for winning championships, as we're kind of seeing now.

I suppose, at the moment we could end up seeing an all redbull podium, if that happened race after race, the strongest redbull driver would be head and shoulders ahead of any non redbull driver.

LDM is the only one vocal about this, bringing it up during press interviews isn't going to make it happen. Either actively take the proposal to FOTA or shut up.

Seems to ke his motives are Ferrari based and not F1 based.

What you say is somewhat true, but, over time, their record will speak for itself. Also, its definitely not Red Bulls fault they are dominant. They have achieved that by providing the budget necessary and being the most innovative team. Red Bull has raised the bar and other teams have to try and match and pass it.

A little harsh on LDM perhaps. Ferrari need a strong and successful F1. It is their success at F1 has driven Ferrari's corporate success. Remember LDM also is encouraging Porsche to join F1. He knows they will produce a competitive car that could beat Ferrari, but he also knows that having a marquee name like Porsche in F1 will do many time more good things than a "mom & pop" team of unknowns. So, whilst LDM will do what he thinks is best for Ferrari (which should come as no surprise as he is the head of Ferrari) he has to also make sure that the one competition that Ferrari 100% commits to also grows.

I'm really sure LDM has an eye on the US every time he talks about 3rd cars, and that surely is a market where F1 can make great in-roads. I sure he believes both Ferrari and F1 would benefit from 3rd Ferrari in the hands of a US team with a young American driver.

From the past he wants 3 cars to fit 3 drivers, now he wants lesser teams to use top teams chassis. That is not F1.
