This is a seriously good idea, props! Could work very well and would motivate drivers more than ever.

Wtf would have happened in Silverstone 2008 with this kind of system

suppose so he deserevs it.

But the 2nd placed man drove better than everyone behind him too and he gets nothing. It's an unliely scenario but it's an interesting quirk.

good idea, but it's too complicated too work. i think the solution is to increase the points difference between the top 2 positions. say 12 for the win and 8 for second.

I think it's a good idea. However I still like the normal F1 points, because of their simplicity.

But none the less. It's extremely ingenious and original idea. Majors props. If any series should use this system it's WRC. WRC would be absolutely perfect for this system.

A very novel idea, i hate seeing drivers merely 'turning the engines down' and settling in the final laps for no apparent reason (ie, they do it even if they're say, 5 seconds behind the car in front), and this would force them to drive flat out all the way through, and on top of that we'd almost certainly see a few more reliability factors come into play. Tis a bit too complicated for the halfarsed F1 fan though, and so we'll never see anything like it.

A wonderful idea, it would really make drivers push more even at the end, we can say for sure we want more fighting nature and this would mean drivers would push at the end of the race more instead of conserving there gearboxes, engines...etc

Can someone work out a full listings for 2009 in this scoring system and the final scores. we might have a different winner (vettel??)

I will try if I get some time later

if someone gets bored before I get to it the magic equation is

S = Slowest Driver time difference from winner
D = Drivers time difference from winner

Points = ((S-D)/S)*90

I am sure that could be transposed to make it easier if so feel free

I'll happily do it, I just want to ensure that my understanding of your system is right, so lets take Australia 2009. The results are:
1 22 Jenson Button Brawn-Mercedes 58 1:34:15.784
2 23 Rubens Barrichello Brawn-Mercedes 58 +0.8 secs
3 9 Jarno Trulli Toyota 58 +1.6 secs
4 10 Timo Glock Toyota 58 +4.4 secs
5 7 Fernando Alonso Renault 58 +4.8 secs
6 16 Nico Rosberg Williams-Toyota 58 +5.7 secs
7 12 Sebastien Buemi STR-Ferrari 58 +6.0 secs
8 11 Sebastien Bourdais STR-Ferrari 58 +6.2 secs
9 20 Adrian Sutil Force India-Mercedes 58 +6.3 secs
10 6 Nick Heidfeld BMW Sauber 58 +7.0 secs
11 21 Giancarlo Fisichella Force India-Mercedes 58 +7.3 secs

Everyone else was either lapped, out or DSQ, so they would get 0 anyway.

If my understanding of your system is right, the new points would look like this (rounding up / down to the nearest whole number):
1 - Button - 90
2 - Barichello - 80
3 - Trulli - 70
4 - Glock - 36
5 - Alonso - 31
6 - Rosberg - 20
7 - Buemi - 16
8 - Bourdais - 14
9 - Sutil - 12
10 - Heidfeld - 4
11 - Fisi - 0

Would you agree? btw, I love doing these kind of stats and number crunching :D

Thats just highlighted something to me. Take your example in the first post. If the last person is 45 seconds back, and 2nd place is 1 second back, 2nd place gets 88 points, fair enough, however using that theory with Australia's results of this year, Barichello was only 0.8 behind Button, but because Fisichella was only 7.3 behind Button, Barichello gets 80. I suppose with more points up for grabs, differences like that are not so severe as in the current system I.E. 8 points is easier to get back in later races then it is with the current system, but drivers could push just as hard, and finish even closer to the leader in some races, but potentially come away with less points.

Do the whole season then!

I am in the process of doing the whole season (I'm at work, so cannot dedicate my entire attention to it), I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't totally off track

Love it, not entire!haha
