I really like this idea, I think it reflects better what happened in the race than a fixed-points system. 2nd place chasing the 1st is a better performance than being 30s behind.

But the 2nd placed man drove better than everyone behind him too and he gets nothing. It's an unliely scenario but it's an interesting quirk.

good idea, but it's too complicated too work. i think the solution is to increase the points difference between the top 2 positions. say 12 for the win and 8 for second.

I think it's a good idea. However I still like the normal F1 points, because of their simplicity.

But none the less. It's extremely ingenious and original idea. Majors props. If any series should use this system it's WRC. WRC would be absolutely perfect for this system.

A very novel idea, i hate seeing drivers merely 'turning the engines down' and settling in the final laps for no apparent reason (ie, they do it even if they're say, 5 seconds behind the car in front), and this would force them to drive flat out all the way through, and on top of that we'd almost certainly see a few more reliability factors come into play. Tis a bit too complicated for the halfarsed F1 fan though, and so we'll never see anything like it.

if someone gets bored before I get to it the magic equation is

S = Slowest Driver time difference from winner
D = Drivers time difference from winner

Points = ((S-D)/S)*90

I am sure that could be transposed to make it easier if so feel free

6 - Rosberg - 20
7 - Buemi - 16
8 - Bourdais - 14
9 - Sutil - 12

Thats just highlighted something to me. Take your example in the first post. If the last person is 45 seconds back, and 2nd place is 1 second back, 2nd place gets 88 points, fair enough, however using that theory with Australia's results of this year, Barichello was only 0.8 behind Button, but because Fisichella was only 7.3 behind Button, Barichello gets 80. I suppose with more points up for grabs, differences like that are not so severe as in the current system I.E. 8 points is easier to get back in later races then it is with the current system, but drivers could push just as hard, and finish even closer to the leader in some races, but potentially come away with less points.
