A racing car that does not win, is just art
I was just reading this weeks Autosport and I noticed a letter in the back. saying as Bernie has tried the medal points system again and no one listened. How about trying a decathalon points system?
I had to check up on what the point system was and I think it has some merit.
The Winner of the race gets some points (say 90 to keep with the decathalon heratige) Points are then lost for how far you are behind the winner. However when I read into it a bit more some people award point to everyone other award 0 points for last place and then people inbetween gets a percentage of the points inbetween.
example
The person who finishes last passes the line 45 seconds after the winner.
the winner gets 90 point
the last person get 0 point
the person in second crosses the line 1 second after the winner. so gets 90*(44/45) 88 points
The plus point of this is that drivers will want to be as close to first place as possible. Also the driver in 1st will want to be as far ahead of everyone else to get the maximum difference in points.
