Still a possibility and no doubt would've opened up a can of worms and split opinion on whether Rosberg deserved it on not. Nobody can dispute that Lewis didn't deserve it however. Certainly not the sane.

It's not clear whether Rosberg's off track excursion triggered the issue but I think he's been having braking issue in race trim all year. He did go off track limits briefly at Interlagos when leading but it wasn't picked up by the commentary.

Modern sports has no place for cheats and certainly Rosberg has learned a harsh lesson this year and most importantly managed to salvage his reputation. You can't deny he conducted himself very well yesterday and was far from the smug looking twit at Monaco. Important for him that he doesn't turn into a Webber for the duration of Mercs dominance.

Newly-crowned Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton cannot be considered a great yet, but he is on the right path, according to Sir Jackie Stewart.
Hamilton joins Stewart, Jim Clark and Graham Hill as the only British drivers to have won two or more titles.

If I were Hamilton I would be hoping that the freeze is done away with such that Merc can justify having such a highly paid driver on staff.

Hang on. You're forgetting the little point of FIVE WINS V ELEVEN WINS. THATS 5 v 11 mercedes will be doing EVERYTHING in they're power to resign Hamilton. If other teams close the gap Lewis is exactly what they need.

Interesting article with Hamilton the top rated sportsman in the world. I wonder though if things would be different now as the timing of that was when Hamilton was on a high leading the wdc and with four straight wins and poles just before Monaco. It's been a Rosberg show since then.

Hamilton certainly personally benefits from such a high rating, I also wonder if Merc benefits from Hamilton's brand in the actual selling of their cars verses a Rosberg led team? I am sure that Merc have their own studies and are crunching the numbers as things progress. Lots of racing still to come .for Hamilton to turn his fortunes around.

So What If Hamilton wasn't in the W05?

The facts are that Rosberg/Merc would be probably be sitting with perhaps 15 wins and the wdc/wcc if Hamilton wasn't there and Merc had subbed a low cost inexperienced up and comer in his place.

I do think that if the Merc domination does carry on that those in Stuttgart who focus on the bottom line may not see the need for high priced drivers or on the other hand if sales go up they may like what they see and get Lewis in a long term deal. We will see. Just food for thought cooking.

I just posted the link where I helped you see that for a company like Merc Lewis is not just a driver but a marketeer and therefore its irrelevant what he gets paid and what he does on track as long as his marketeability remains high which is of course dependent on what he does on track. And I even posted a link for you to discover why and how he is the biggest marketing draw on the grid, i.e bigger than Nico
