Indeed, Schumacher isn't usually that out-spoken these days. Talking about F1 today he's usually cautious over what he says. So for him to come out and hit out against the rules is quite a big thing in my opinion.

I think just about every driver is against this. Aside from Kimi, does he ever care, and Lewis who cares about his image and doesn't want to be seen as a moan. :hehe:
So really the opinion is pretty unanimous against the FIA's decision. Their system needs to go right now.

Maybe Kimi just doesn't speak up because he's too busy downing Johnnie Walker? :hehe:

Oh Contrare

World Champion Lewis Hamilton has joined the growing list of drivers (and fans) unhappy at the recent rule changes announced by the FIA.

In addition to a radical change to the rules in 2010, when teams can opt for a £30m budget cap in return for being allowed greater technical freedom, the FIA, under pressure from Bernie Ecclestone, is changing the way the Drivers' World Championship title will be decided. From this season, the title will go to the driver who has won the most races, a move that hasn't gone down well with fans or many of the drivers.

"I think it's a shame what's happening to Formula 1," said Hamilton this morning. "It's hard to believe that these recent decisions will improve things for the trackside spectators and TV viewers, who should always be our number-one priority, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

"Whatever the points system, I know that all Formula 1 drivers will always race our hearts out," he continued. "For the first time in recent years we have the teams, drivers, sponsors and fans all working together for the good of our sport - now we just need the governing bodies to listen to us and help us.

"Formula 1 is the pinnacle of motorsport and that's what we all love about it; we should all be working together to maintain that."

In a sport, indeed, driving for a team, where it is rare for drivers to speak out so publicly and negatively, it is clear that there is much more to this than meets they eye.

Hamilton's words, though no doubt born of frustration, are just a little too correct, a little too corporate and in harmony with the FOTA line.

The battle lines are clearly being drawn as FOTA prepares to take on the FIA, and who better to assist in the fray than the drivers the public so readily identifies with.

F1 is coming somting more of a symbol of money. I'm surprised Schumi has sai somthing though? Seening as u would of though Ferrari would want to keep Bernie sweet? :irked:

Monti speaks out also!
peaking during a visit to Ferrari's Maranello HQ by the President of the Republic of Italy, Giorgio Napoletano, Luca di Montezemolo, who, apart from being President of Ferrari is also President of the Formula One Teams' Association, hit out at the rule changes announced by the FIA on Tuesday.

"I really think it's absurd, severe and dangerous that one week before the first Grand Prix Formula 1 is in such a situation, which is very bad for its credibility, its security, the teams, the car manufacturers, the fans, the journalists and the sponsors who invest," he said.

"I hope for a responsible climate, which has been started by us, the teams, with a cost reduction of 50%," he continued. "It's important to have a serene climate and to avoid continuous changes, creating uncertainty for those who work and making decisions for the future difficult."

di Montezemolo's comments follow the official statement released by FOTA in the wake of the FIA's announcement, in which the teams' organization admitted to being "disappointed" with the World Motor Sport Council's decisions and the unilateral manner in which they were reached.

I like this everyone is sticking together with this. FOTA is working i can hear Bernie and the FIA trembling over this!!!

FOTA didn't work though. It was ignored by the FIA.
It will only succeed now if the sport is thrown into another political war.

it was ignored by the FIA because i think they are just trying to show them who has the power. its pathetic but thats the FIA for you! but FOTA as one can threaten a break away and what will the FIA have left without any of the marquee teams. firstly no Ferrari no McLaren Williams they will be begging for them to come back if they attempted a break away.

this is the beginning of a new power struggle

I'd agree, I think the FIA were affraid of FOTA. No longer do they have the likes of Ferrari on their side. However it is a worrying time. A breakaway series wouldn't be good in my opinion. If the FIA do anything right, it is that they guarantee the survival or F1.
A GPWC or whatever, wouldn't be as solid. The Manufacturers may not stick around. In 10 years time, that may be the case.

FOTA just need to quietly back a candidate friendly to their positions for the FIA President. That would be 1 big problem solved, 1 to go...

hmm with Monti as president i would say Todt. timing of his departure from Ferrari is a sign i say. but with FOTA united as much as i cant believe im saying it, i dont see Todt as a bad choice compared to what we have now with Max.

Breakaway series is not the answer to solution for F1 and FOTA. Breakaway from the FIA, WMSC by creating a new governing body run by FOTA with members from motoring clubs of the F1 teams nation of origin. Do not sub-contract out rules enforcement, form a committee within FOTA. Teams can still race under the F1 banner, just divorce the FIA, WMSC, Max Mosley, Alan Donnaly and the corrupt stewards.

Bernie and the FiA are no firend of Ferrari's, they're no friend of any of the team's. FiA and Bernie are the kind to stab you in the back and blame you for not looking.

A breakaway series ideally should be avoided, but I think there is enough support amongst the Formula One teams and fans for change. Let's face it, Ecclestone's grand plans for Formula One are not exactly popular. For instance, great tracks have been/are being taken off the calendar as a matter of course now. If the breakaway series said venues like Spa Francorchamps, Hermanos Rodríguez etc. were being brought back, and that the sport would be governed in more professional and impartial manner, I dare say it would do quite well.
