This new system is garbage. Three P2s are definitely better than a P1 and two DNFs. This stupid new system will only make the championship end sooner and produce an "arguable" champion.

The FIA should have listened to FOTA.

I am not sure what this will do, if anything really, but we have a week to go and this new rule about the amount of wins takes the title has really infuriated me and probably most of you too. Alonso & Schumacher have also opposed this. It is not fair that a driver that is consistent in points and position could lose the title to someone who is not. No other sport has a rule like this, Points mean everything in MOTOGP, WRC & BTCC, and has done since 1950 in the case of F1. This basicly means that the FIA can dictate the championship more than ever! Bad news for Hamilton's dare devil moves.

Probably, or anyone Max dislikes, or to help anyone he likes. Its just more power grabbing, more control. Sick!

Basically i think it boiled down to the FIA not liking FOTA's unity and brushed off any ideas they came up with because hey if they can make their own rules whats the point of the FIA. Max and his WMSC pals thought hey lets go with Bernies FOMs ideas to show FOTA who is boss...

Agreed on both. Max wants more power, and he hates that the teams are unified because it erodes said power.

The Formula One Teams' Association says the FIA's decision to change the scoring system for 2009 is invalid and cannot be enforced.

FOTA - which proposed an alternative points system but saw it rejected by the FIA World Motor Sport Council - claims that Formula 1 regulations do not allow such a change so close to the season unless all the teams are in agreement.

"Following the decision of the World Motorsport Council of the 17 March 2009 to change the way the drivers’ championship is awarded, the Teams gathered and unanimously agreed to question the validity of this decision," said a FOTA statement.

"The amendment to the sporting regulations proposed by the World Motorsport Council was not performed in accordance with the procedure provided for by Appendix 5 of the Sporting Regulations and, as per the provisions of the article 199 of the FIA International Sporting Code, it is too late for FIA to impose a change for the 2009 season that has not obtained the unanimous agreement of all the competitors properly entered into the 2009 Formula 1 Championship."

The regulation in question says that changes to the sporting regulations have to be "published at least 20 days prior to the opening date for entry applications for the championship concerned" unless "the unanimous agreement of all competitors properly entered for the championship or series concerned is obtained."

The teams body says it is willing to work with the FIA to implement a new system for 2010, but insists that the 'winner takes all' proposal cannot legally be imposed at this stage.

"Since the change to the scoring system unanimously agreed by the Teams and proposed to FIA did not receive approval of the WMSC, no change can occur in 2009, and the Teams wish to reaffirm their willingness to collaborate with the FIA in order to jointly define a new point system for the 2010 season within a comprehensive set of measures aimed at further stimulating the attractiveness of the F1 Sport," said FOTA.

It added that its own suggestion that the top eight scoring system be amended to a 12-9-7-5-4-3-2-1 points distribution had the backing of the fans surveyed by FOTA when it was devising its 'roadmap' for F1's future.

"FOTA had made a proposal that was carefully based on the results of a Global Audience Survey, which allowed listening to preferences of the public, and all the Teams firmly believe that these indications should be properly taken into account."

Formula 1's teams claim the new scoring system introduced earlier this week is not valid and cannot be used in 2009.

They argue that the changes, which stipulate that the driver with most wins will become world champion, did not meet the necessary regulations.

F1's governing body, the FIA, announced it was amending the scoring system in order to make racing more exciting.

But the Formula One Teams Association (Fota) said it "unanimously agreed to question the validity" of the decision.

"It is too late for FIA to impose a change for the 2009 season that has not obtained the unanimous agreement of all the competitors properly entered into the 2009 Formula 1 Championship," read a Fota statement, issued on Friday.

FOTA have a legitimate point. In the past, when the teams (or whoever) wanted regulations changed, they were often told it was too short notice. In this case, we have significant rule changes being made less than a fortnight before the season starts. The hypocrisy stinks to high heaven.
