Lewis is much more outspoken and media friendly than Kimi. But Kimi was the same before he was champion and so was Lewis... so what's the point?
The point is everyone is different. Some drivers may choose to go out of their way to promote whatever. But they don't really have to. All they have to do is drive faster than the rest. That's what a WDC should be doing to help the sport. :drink:

I disagree. A world champion is a poster child of the sport and a role model - he is and should be in a prime position to promote F1, to interact with the fans, etc. That is an implied responsibility of any champion of any sport and more so in F1 where salaries are exorbitant.

I agree DD. And Hamilton has been fulfilling those duties in off-season events. Whether he has a worse personality than Kimi is not the issue. Even though he is all soundbytes at least he is saying those soundbytes in more places promoting F1 than Kimi ever did.

BTW nice to be back after another extended absence. I bet none of you even noticed...

I Like how The BBC reported Hamilton was fastest on thursday yet they failed to point out he had a 2008 wing that makes a lot of difference to downforce. Im worried we are going to get another hamilton biased broadcast this year :(

Same here. The headline read, Hamiliton fastest in testing. This also happens to be the only testing session they've covered. I wonder why

But its not just hamiliton, its typical of the British media. BBC have all of sudden upped their coverage of tennis, broadcasting live matches during 6:00am. It wouldn't happen to be because we have a rising star called Andy Murray.

I have no problem with BBC coverage of Hamiliton, just as long as every question doesn't involve the words "why do you think Hamiliton is so great"

Lots of people are trying different things in testing. All of the times are pretty irrelevant, to be honest. In terms of the rear wing McLaren have been using lately, it is a very much modified version of the 2008 one, so it is producing similar amounts of downforce to what the 2009 one will be producing. So, stop being so melodramatic, folks.

Why does Lewis do everything in his race overalls. He is not going to get burned alive in a London Taxi. That sort of safety precaution isnt necessary and he could quite easily have worn any garment from his millions of Mclaren clothes.

Simply put , by being a celebrity he's the perfect walking billboard (or whatever you folks call them over there). Every photo of him is a photo of sponsor names and logos and that's what they pay the big bucks for. I wouldn't at all be surprised if there isn't some actuary cloistered away in a room at Mclaren HQ counting every time a particular logo turns up in some photo of Lewis and billing accordingly.

All im saying is I hope the BBC take a more broader mind of all the teams and drivers from all nationalities not just for the benifit of the dumb newbie F1 fans who joined the sport because of the rise of Hamilton. I hope they are not that fickle.

It's the BRITISH Broadcasting Corporation. They quite rightly assume that the majority of F1 fans who watch their coverage will be most interested in the World Champion Brit we have. If you were watching in Spain, there'd be a bias towards Alonso, in Brazil towards Massa etc. I think it's unfair to make people who only started watching F1 recently sound like glory hunters who don't really care about the sport. You can get interested in things at any point, and Hamilton has quite simply raised the interest levels of the sport for people in England. There's this whole anti-Hamilton movement which has sprung up, whose aim is to make it out that anyone who supports Hamilton is an F1 newbie.

Someone raised the point about the British TV stations showing more coverage of tennis now that Andy Murray's taken his game to the next level. I don't see the problem with that. It's always nice to have someone you can support, and have a reason for doing so, and companies like the BBC and ITV are right in spending a large chunk of their coverage on the big Brits in their respective sports.

Lastly, often people who want to be seen as hardcore fans (F1 or tennis) think they have to be different, and so support someone else. Some of the Hamilton bashing is clearly way over the top, and I wonder how many beaters would actually be on his side if he hadn't brought so many F1 "noobs" into the sport (something which is obviously completely out of his control)
