Takuma Sato seems to have moved closer to securing a racing seat with the Toro Rosso team after confirming he will test again at Jerez next week.

The Japanese driver, left without a seat after the demise of the Super Aguri team earlier this year, has tested for the Italian squad twice already.

"We obviously see this as a positive step but still nothing is decided for the 2009 racing season," said Sato's manager Andrew
Gilbert-Scott.

Sato will join the team at Jerez for the test on 10-11 December.

Toro Rosso are yet to confirm their drivers for 2009, with Sato, Sebastien Bourdais and Sebastien Buemi in the running.

Buemi will drive all three days of the test, while Bourdais will be on track on the first two.

Red Bull boss Dietrich Mateschitz said last month, however, that Buemi was very likely to land one of the drives.

Buemi is nothing special, only getting his drive because of his Red Bull backing. With Sato and Buemi, Toro Rosso can look forward to being mobile chicanes once again next year.

de ja vu

I swear every post about sato ends up with

and later on :hitler:

The latter is usually because the entire driver situation comes up, which involves Barrichello. This then, inevitably, leads to Nick "Mini-Hitler" Fry being mentioned.

why not Torro Rosso/Redbull try to be the larger than life fun guys that Jordan used to be. Sato always strikes me as a mavrick and a bit off the wall. Plus his driving style puts me in mind of a Kamakazi Pilot

As long as Bourdais keeps his drive, I don't care if the other one is Sato or Buemi. But those two together...

I also like Sato, and was disappointed that he didn't do better in F1. I wouldn't be sad to see him get another chance to prove himself.

Sato is a waste of time. You would think the Japanese would rather support Toyota than a driver that has no business in GP2 let alone an F1 car.

Sato was great in British F3, winning a bunch of races in 2000 and coming third, and winning almost half the races in 2001 to take the championship. In the BAR, he was convincingly outperformed by JB, which wasn't good, but JB was at his peak there. In the Super Aguri he had some good drives, and it looked like he was building his reputation again until the team folded.

To call him a waste of time is IMHO grossly unfair. A number of Japanese drivers seem to be treated unfairly by fans, in my opinion. Katayama was promising in 1994 before he developed cancer, and was competitive with Mika Salo. But nowdays Ukyo seems to be remembered as a pay driver.
