I like the current quali format - very exciting.
No comparison to that 1-driver-for-1-lap borefest we had before - see, it could be worse?!?

Yes I like the current set up. The last one like you say was so boring. I think thats why GP's started bundling 3 day tickets up for the same price as a raceday ticket. It was the only way to get folk in for quali! I Remember one year at the height of the boringness mm mate and I decided to only buya race day ticketand to wattch quali from the big screen at Jordan just across the road. Lots of folk must have thought similar because thats when they brought out the 3day tickets for the same price . So we swopped tickets to a 3day in the end.

How about scrapping Qualifying?

How about on Saturday there is a 1 hours race/100 Miles (or maybe a distance a car can go on one lot of fuel/tyres) whichever is quickest. The starting grid is the reverse of the Championship position (as in Championship leader at the back)

Sunday normal race, however grid is the finishing position of saturdays sprint race.

Binary Points (see other thread) will only be awarded for Sundays race.

I don't think we need drastic changes such as that. If Ecclestone really believed what he was saying, we'd simply go back to one of the old points systems: the one from the late 1980s which counted your eleven best results or the system that was in place from 1991 to 2002 inclusive.

oh yeah, that one where Prost actually scored more points than Senna, but Senna won the title in 1988. I think the current points system is perfect for F1. Maybe a tweek of more points for the winner.

They both knew the points format - senna won its all good.

I don't see what KryosV is getting worried about. The fact is the rules were laid out before the season began, so all the drivers knew what they had to do to win the championship. Prost got more points, true, but Senna had more than double the number of technical problems Prost had and put in the better drives of the season. Senna was a worthy champion.

Im not worried about it. It was before my time. It was a bad system and thats why they changed it. I just gave an example of Prost and senna in the 1988 season of how it doesnt really work. On the other hand the 10,6,4,3,2,1 system worked better and the 10,8,6,5,4,3,2,1 points system worked even better still. So why is bernie proposing a new system to replace a system that works?

everyone keeps going on about more points for the winner... does that mean that 4th does not try to overtake 5th because there is not many points in it?

it just makes sense and leaves no room for complications, plus it reminds me of the days when drivers who crashed jumped out of their cars and ran back to the pit to get into the spare car... given there was enough time

I voted for the current setup, but I wouldn't be at all disappointed if the format from 1996 to 2002 was resurrected.
