I don't know. Should they take fuel loads out of things. It doesn't sound like a bad idea.
Plus a point for pole position sounds like a good idea. Just 1 though, 2 points would mean you could finish 2nd and take as many points as the guy in first.

Why would they want to change the qualifying format? Its the same deal with the points system. If it aint broke, dont fix it.

Eccelstone's idea of medals instead of points is just as insane.

I think the points idea is worse. I think points system we have right now is perfect imo.

I think the points should stay how it is but have 1 point for pole position and 1 point for the fastest lap then drivers might start pushing near the end of the race rather than just hold position.

1 point for pole would suck in F1 with varying race fuel loads.

Scenario as it is now
as say Massa knows he does not have the pace for a win, He knows he can probably qualify 3rd or at best 2nd. so the best that could come out of this would mean his main opponent Hamilton gets 10 points from the weekend while he gets 8.

Scenario with point for pole
yet with the 1 point for pole Massa could knowingly hinder his first stint by going alot shorter than Lewis knowing Lewis will overtake him during the pit stops. He gets pole and the 1 point./
Massa still finsihes 2nd in this scenario but comes out of the weekend with a 10 - 9 thats 1 point gap instead of 2

this takes away more power of a win

old points system was better. with the current system two 4th places equal a win. and with 2nd place worth 8 points it does not encourage wheel to wheel racing. give 2nd place 6 points and give them something to race for

I remember the days when the winner would only get 9 points for a win, and the best 11 scores would count towards the title. That's how Ayrton Senna won it 20 years ago despite having fewer points than Prost. And backmarkers had chances of getting points due to the very high attrition rates back then.

The pole point works if the gap between 1st and second is relatively wide. say, 12 points for 1st place, 9 for 2nd. If the 2nd place pilot had a pole position, he goes up to 10, but never reaches the winner.

I think they should ditch the "you must put your race-fuel in before Q3" rule because more often than not the pole-winner has the lightest fuel load. Let them go back out on light fuel for Q3, but they still must inform the FIA what strategy they are planning to run for the race and they must stick to it unless the safety car comes out.

Or even better bring back Friday and Saturday qualifying

Ditch the current system and also forget this new stupid idea, (Although 1 point for pole sounds like a not bad idea). This new idea sounds like something from the Test Drive and Need 4 Speed games. There were options and race types in some of those games were you would race and every lap the car in last would drop out until you got to the last lap and only 2 cars were left. I like the old days of qualifying. Different tyres, whatever fuel load you wanted, fastest times on either the Friday or Saturday would count etc. This is normal racing, this is the way it should go bacl to. And I don't consider it Ferrari's fault because they were always winning for this to of changed. Number 1 no one should be penalised for being the best and 2 in the late 80s early 90s, McLaren were winning mostly and no one complained. Then it was mostly Williams and again no one complained. These days it is all nonense.
