well the winner last year did 381 laps.

so that times 13km is 4953km I guess. so to sum up, an F1 car would be buggered

Although you could turn an F1 engine right down and it would still be faster than a LeMans car!! So god knows how many miles the engine would last!

what are the comparisons of speed between an f1 car and a le mans car? Le mans are V12s right?

If you use Laguna Seca as a comparison track, you'll find that Zonta owns the lap record from the demo laps he turned at the Monterey Historics in 2006 (using a 2006 spec Toyota F1). Laptime was 1:06.5. The same year, the Zytec had the P1 pole for the ALMS race with a 1:13.7 laptime.

so if you had to tone down an f1 engine to make it last the 24 hours, its going to be slower

brakes cornering acceleration etc etc F1 car would own Le man cars, even with a detuned engine!

remember the Le Mans engines would already be tuned to last 24 hours

It doesn't quite work like that. A small de-tuning a small amount leads to much higher lifespan.

Safety would NEVER pass, but it would be terrific stuff to watch.

It is terrific to watch - it's called RALLYING!!!

Rally cars dont have wings????

But rally is great to watch. My Uncle who is 60+ does rallying.

It's not necessarily a bad idea, but my mentality is really 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' :)

With the efficiancy of an F1 team you could set 200 full race speed laps and when the readouts pit-side showed the engine was in trouble pull it in change the engine and continue.

i bet it would still win if they did that.
