I had an idea yesterday. What would you guys think of 1 pont to point f1 race. With each team setting up pit stations along the way?

PS. Go Lewis, and about damned time.

I don't think it could be done with F1 cars, as you couldn't find a road that was both interesting enough and safe enough for long enough. And if Donington think they've got issues with planning permission this would be in a whole different league!

And there's always rallying...

Sadly I think you are right. But, they could use an interstate or highway over here in the state some of them are in great condition.

But this is only a dream.

That might make for an interesting race, but not a Formula One race. The world has all sorts of classifications of motorsports, so that would simply be another one to add to the list. Now, rally is a point-to-point race, but not with open-wheel race cars and not on highways.

I don't think they'll ever gwt permission to do that sort of race because of the safety issues and the costs setting the stage up because they would need all sorts of safety barriers and fencing.

Your highways are nice, long, wide, and straight. Not much excitement and you'd be win the race in a Veyron :)

(however, I'd love to see F1 cars on open roads)

Did they not replace the long tracks of old (like the nordeschliefe) with shorter tracks for logistic and safety reasons? point to point would present a much bigger problem.

Safety would NEVER pass, but it would be terrific stuff to watch.

Knowing the reliability of F1 cars, I dont think it will make it to the finish. Unless you made an awsome heavy durability F1 car!!

well the F1 engines are designed to last two races which is roughly 600km how many kays do they cover over the 13km track in 24hours?

well the winner last year did 381 laps.

so that times 13km is 4953km I guess. so to sum up, an F1 car would be buggered
