Fernando Alonso has inadvertently confirmed that he judged Lewis Hamilton's penalty in the Japanese GP fully deserved without even knowing what the Englishman was punished for.

In the post-race press conference conducted immediately after Sunday's event, the three podium finishers were asked if they thought Hamilton's drive-through penalty was fair. While Kimi Raikkonen and Robert Kubica both replied that they "didn't know" because they "didn't see the whole thing", Alonso, without hesitation, declared he "agreed" with the decision.

However, speaking later to a Spanish newspaper, the former McLaren driver, who endured a fractious relationship with Hamilton during his season at Woking, admitted he didn't know what had happened or even what the stewards had found him guilty of.

"I don't know what he did," said the Spaniard, "but it's good he's punished anyway."

I read that too. They totally jumped the gun and Planet-F1 has been slaughtered on it by some of the people in the comments box about translating it.
I was disappointed with the site - it shouldn't be showing its colours the way it has been over the past couple of weeks.

That's just a guy bitter about the events of the last season, and I don't disagree with what you're implying on that one.

"Does anyone in PF1 double check translations or speak more than one language? AS reported: "¿Y qué le parece la sanción a Hamilton? No sé lo que hizo, pero bien penalizado está (se ríe)." This is translated as: "Don't know what he did, but he's well sanctioned (he laughs)." So it's a joke... that's all. Whether this is really bad journalism or it was done on purpose... Either way, it speaks really badly of this site."

I would say that Alonso is the flip side of the same coin of some of the Hamilton fans in here, who no matter what he does he wasn't guilty and didn't deserve the penalty. While there are many who do not like Hamilton, none of us have half the reason not to like him that Alonso has. I don't hold it against him at all, had Hamilton followed team orders and allowed Alonso out first last year there wouldn't have been any drama, Alonso would not have been penalized and Alonso would have won the title. I think the drama between those two drivers is going to be long and pronounced. Had Alonso had a car capable of competing this year, I think there would have been much paint traded between those two. I would not be at all shocked to see Alonso take Hamilton out of a race, he certainly would not roll over and kiss his hand like Kimi has done when Hammy makes a move on him.

Alonso is a HERO. He even said that he was glad that Lewis Hamilton got a penalty and it was well deserved, but didn't know what it was for. Something I would of said as well. Alonso and I sure think a like. *LOL* Spanish - Italian all same *LOL* Now we have another Ally to help Massa. So it will be Massa and the allies that comprises of Kimi, Alonso, Max Mosely, the FIA, the Stewards and who know what other drivers Vs Lewis Hamilton and McLaren Scum. This will make one war zone of a great finale. And let us hope that the Allies are Victorious................

pero bien penalizado está (se ríe). This part means literally "but well penalised he is (he laughs). When I read it in Spanish I think it in Spanish without a translation so the way it is said makes perfect sense. But to translate correctly it means that he is happy that he got penalised. This part ¿Y qué le parece la sanción a Hamilton? No sé lo que hizo you translated correctly. So in all the journalist have got nothing wrong. Alonso is clearly happy that Lewis Hamilton got a penalty and didn't know what the penalty was for.
