Don't blame the FIA. Massa got a penalty as well. If they wanted to cheat they would of only penalised Lewis hamilton and Mass could of easily got as high as 3rd and be only 1 point behind Lewis Hamilton by now, plus Ferrari could of furthered their lead in the Constructors title.

Just me personally, I did not think at the first corner that anything was done wrong, Id still agree with penalties to my drivers if they were truly deserved, I dunno, I need to really look at the footage more.

can`t think of a race this year were a car was not forced off on the first bend.
there was 2 or 3 other cars forced off so why no penalty`s there...unfortuatley for massa (who had a great race after there penaltys were givin) there was no doubt it was a penalty......

I think one incident deserved a penalty more than the other, but they both got he same

Hamilton's driving at the start was scandalous. He could easily have collected several cars. He completely cut up Kovalainen and could have collected several cars. Yeah, he didn't hit anybody, but that is not the point. He could well have done so. I don't know what he was thinking. Massa's driving was sinful. He deliberately took out Hamilton and should count himself lucky he only got a drive-through penalty. His attempt to "overtake" Bourdais was also a farce and he passed Webber outside the track, so he must get a five or ten-place grid penalty next weekend.

Typical of you to completely Rubbish Ferrari/Massa. Pathetic. Yes when Massa cut into Lewis Hamilton at the start and perhaps deserved a penalty but I don't agree that is the case with the Boudais inncident. And the passing of Webber was perfectly done so your comment is biased as ever.

Looking at the Lewis / Kimi incident at turn one purely in itself I can understand why a penalty might be given, i.e. if the same scenario occurred say ten laps into the race when the field was more spread out and the same incident occurred. However I'm uncomfortable with penalties being given at turn one / lap one in general.

Firstly, there is now, and always will be in similar circumstances a huge question mark over consistency. Nothing whatsoever to do with consistency between McLaren / Ferrari as is often discussed, but consistency across the whole field. In every single race of every single year in F1 there has been and will be at least a couple of cars who dive for the inside line and lock wheels. This might not always be fighting for 1st / 2nd; it could be for 8th / 9th, or indeed 19th / 20th.

Most of the time these 'incidents' (sarcasm) go unnoticed or unpunished because the driver in question has a realistic chance of taking the position, and contact is not made. In fact often contact is made, be it minimal or terminal to the cars involved, but still goes unpunished. I believe that this is how it should be.

In an era now where drivers feel uncomfortable being able to race and overtake for fear of being penalised at the slightest of suspicion rather than being given the benefit of the doubt, this penalty sends out the complete wrong message. Action at the start that is seen as RACING is one of the few exciting moments left in the GP's of the modern era, and this one penalty alone could begin to see the gradual move towards rolling starts a la indy car. What a horrible thought!!

I hope other members will see this post NOT as Mclaren / Lewis bias; I would be saying the EXACT same thing were the drivers the other way round (i.e. Massa the perpetrator being punished) or if it were a Renault fighting with a BMW.

An incorrect and inconsistent (with the entire history and likely future of F1) penalty.

What are you talking about? Biased! I just said that Hamilton was a w***er and deserved his penalty. If I were being biased surely I would have said he didn't deserve to be penalised. You're partial one here, Kiki. Massa deliberately took out Hamilton, had no chance of getting by Bourdais and caused an avoidable collision was well beyond the white line when he overtook Webber. Get over it. A five or ten place grid penalty is a must.
