Okay this is going to far. F1 is a sport not some kind of political statment machine. Also making motor racing go green is beyound stupid. All of motor racing in the world combined would not even budge any emmisions decetions. Thats for all you folks that unlike me accept the premise of man made climate change.
Is climate change happening maybe so, but we have nothing to do with it. There is no where near enough info to base any real scintific opinion on. We have had accurate weather information for only about 100 years, and accurate gobal weather measurments for even less than that, and to base a major major scintific opinion that may affect the population of the world on this is asinine.
If you know your world history you will see that the earth has gone through many warm and cold periods thoughout the millennia, and we did not have cars back then.

Sorry for the rant folks but this kind of crap really gets me fired up, and between this and the Idiot Brothers Bernie and Mad Max screwing with this sport just pisses me off.

Like I said before in the engine discussion thread I do not think that there should be any rules retarding development in F1, but this develoment should be done with the spirit of competition in mind and not some political agenda.

 Great post I completely agree.

But F1 has to cut costs and go green.
There was hot and cold periods in our history, but these didn't have the billions of tons of carbon emissions that we produce now each year.
It is better that F1 goes this way, they need to remain at the pinnacle in innovation - not just on the track but on the road to.
Heck the way fossil fuels are running out, the only F1 we'll have is the drivers using their feet like in the Flintstones - unless development carries on

The idea is that the green idea flows through in to the general car industry. Technical innovations are part of what F1 is (or should be) about.

Pass me the sick bucket... :vomit:

will suit Honda but doesnt really suit the McLaren or Ferrari that was wearing them at the launch

They don't look all that bad on the actual cars.

I think they look even worse, I just hope it rains so much nobody is even able to use those stupid tyres. :director:

Green, pink or purple I could care less about what color the stripes are on a tire, let's just race.

Thank you!

I'm wondering what they're going to do for the softer compounds next year, seeing as the tyres aren't grooved. Also, when I first saw the headline, I thought the whole tyre was going to be green :hehe:

I like them :yikes:

Don't get me wrong I am all for innovation. But what I cannot stand is being forced to do so. Forcing innovation will only lead to failure or at the very least a haphazard solution (Hibrid Cars). YOU must let it happen by itself. By giving the people on the frontier (F1) freedom to do what they wish and experiment any way they want.

As I said before. F1 should have no contruction restrictions except a min. weight, a standard car box size to work in, 4 wheels, and an engine that drives the rear wheels.
That give the engineers complete freedom to design god knows what to drive the cars, and this new technology will eventially trickle down to the rest of us.

Remember nessesity is the mother of invention not goverment mandates.

Right, but what does that do for cost-cutting and for lessening the environmental impact? And what does it do for helping to develop technologies that rely less on fossil fuels and more on renewable energy sources? I can't really remember the last true innovation to come out of F1 before KERS, to be honest.

As with regards to necessity, it is a necessity that Formula 1 cuts costs and develops new, road-relevant technologies. It is also necessary that they move away from non-renewable energy sources because they won't last forever.

I think the Greenhouse Effect is a load of rubbish, cultivated by politicians and others with evil agendas. That said, I also recognise that fossil fuels will run out one day down the line, that the people who have the oil are people with whom we don't best get along and the price of oil has such a profound affect on Western society, so it would prudent to find other means of energy. Formula One should be a part of this, for it keeps the sport relevant, improves its image, will provide more scope for innovation, keep Formula One the pinnacle of motorsport, and the cars will still be fast!

What about Honda's bunny ears? :hehe::P

I 100% agree with the view that F1 needs to find an even more efficient way of fuelling it's cars for starters - say if they could last a whole race on one tank of fuel, then i'd sure love for that technology to filter through to my car...!
