What do you think about the discrepency in university fees between Scotland and England?

What about them? It's not a simple matter of the Scots just voting themselves free stuff. If they give each student £1,725 a year for university, then that's £1,725 less they've got to spend on other things.

Well Chris, I didn't criticize the Union or Britain or whatever. All I wanted is to point out how ridiculous LH's statement was. And your little treatise about the history of it all, just confirmed my point. :thumbup:

what about me?

Yes honey, you too :dummyspit::drink:

Yes, well people like myself can feel that wat from time to time. I've prob pissed enough people off on this board through sheer randomness to ever gain any sort of admiration anyways.
So I might as well not try :wavey:

To round off, this goes back to what I said earlier. As part of the union we are partners, but the Scottish way of thinking is very much different to the likes of the other countries in some ways.

Its quite collective and socially based. Thats why we continue to give free tutition fees, personal health cares to the elderly - to name a few, because it is the way we fundamentally see ourselves.

Yes, and because of this, Scotland has less money to spend on other areas. The Scots prioritise where their money goes differently than England, that's all. If anything is going to threaten the Union, it is misunderstandings like this. In fact, I'm sick of hearing complaints from various people on matters such as this. I think a national discussion should be held so that all the nasty rumours perpetrated by self-seeking individuals are put to rest.

They're admiral values , ones i think most English people would share, but in England university now costs £3000 a year and many students can't afford to go. :confused:

Yes and I don't believe that it was a smart move for England to go down that way.
I guess it widens the gap between who can and can't go to University.
Whereas in Scotland for example, University choice/availability is open to all really.
I don't think this degrades University. It should no longer be class based - everyone should have the right to learn.
