The reason the penalty was dished out was for no reason other than help Ferrari's title bid. I was watching some footage of the 1992 German Grand Prix earlier. Mansell was close behind Senna but out-braked himself into one of the chicanes and had to use the run-off area. He kept his foot down, slipstreamed Senna and got past him at the next corner. In other words, incidents such as the Hamilton-Raikkonen one this season have been going on for years and nothing has been done about. Why now? Because Ferrari are getting a run for their money this season.
Ayrton Senna: WDC 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991
McLaren: WCC 1974, 1984, 1985, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1998, 1999, 2007
McLaren: WDC 1974, 1976, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1998, 1999, 2008
No, but if it wasn't Ferrari it would have been another team. Can't help that they finished 2nd and reaped the rewards so to speak.
